GRANDMOTHER'S FLOWER GARDEN - HELP!

Recently Sue of The House that Love Built had a post about her progress on her Grandmother’s Flower Garden Quilt.  I commented that I was working on one too, and it was currently in my UFO pile.  She mentioned that she would like to see it, and I told her I would post about it.  These blocks above are just a few of those I have finished.  I have 17 blocks completed (I was going to say "so far" but I think I'm done making blocks).

I don’t know what size Sue’s blocks are, but my blocks are made up of 2 ½-inch hexagons which make a 13-inch block.  I started this quilt years ago, when I first started quilting.  I had never done English Paper Piecing before and had no idea what I was doing.  Now I wish I had made all the centers the same color.  However, I am not taking these apart to make new centers.  We’ll just deal with what I have.
The challenge for me is putting them together. I had no instructions and just started making a white "path." However, I soon realized I needed to do some planning as not each hexagon will require a “path” attached to it. I think that was when I gave up and put this in my UFO pile. I’m not sure I like the white path either. I really don’t know what to do with these blocks and would be grateful for any suggestions. Maybe just appliqué them to a strip of fabric and make a table runner, or place mats. Any ideas?

If you like GrandMother’s Flower Garden Quilts, you might also like to look at the one that Rhonda has on Stash Manicure today.

Jane has a wonderful tutorial at Stash Manicure on what else you can do with that Dresden Plate ruler. I really like this block and can’t wait to give it a try.

Your hexagons are beautiful! I appliqued mine to squares of white fabric and then used those blocks to make a little quilt! :0)

I love hexies and grandma's flower garden quilts. You can always off-set them a little so they just interlock together. I like the idea of applqueing them, too. They look nice laid out on that quilt in the first photo!
