NEW AT THE ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

Have you seen these new items in at the Attic Window Quilt Shop?  Above is a bag that Lee Anne made.  I think it is the Bow Tucks pattern.  I love this fabric. Lee Anne says that no matter what bag class she is teaching, you can make this bag instead if you would like.  Just let her know ahead of time.
Have you seen this table runner that Marilyn made?  I know in the picture it looks like there are two different table runners, but this is all one piece.  Check out the pattern at the shop.  If I could find my notebook I would tell you the name of the pattern.  Please call the shop for information.

NEW GROUP NEW PICTURES

On Wednesday, there was another group meeting at the Attic Window Quilt Shop while the Mod Squad was meeting.  I didn't get the name of the group, other than it was J.D.'s group.  Naturally, when they were having a little show-n-tell, I had to stick my nose in and take some pictures.  Above, Beth P. shows off her Triple Crown Quilt.  It is an American Jane pattern.  Beth said that some of the fabrics in this stunning quilt are ones that she hand-dyed.  Note:  Beth will be teaching how to make this quilt at J.D.'s retreat in October.
Charlene made this beautiful quilt in the turquoise and gray fabrics.  She said she didn't remember the name of the pattern but found it in a magazine.   A special thank you to these lovely ladies for sharing these quilts with us.
It was a busy day on Wednesday.  Vickie S. stopped in to show us her two T-Shirt quilts that she made for her granddaughter Emily who graduates in June.
This is the second quilt that Vickie S. showed us.
I had to show you this close-up of one of the T-shirts.  Adorable.
Marilyn stopped in at the shop.  I think she brought this in to show one of the ladies in the other group.  At first she said I didn't want to take a picture because it really was just and old Jelly Roll quilt.  But I talked her into it because I thought you world like to see the beautiful fabrics. Thanks, Marilyn for sharing.

A MODERN KEY FOR THE MOD SQUAD

The Mod Squad Modern Quilt Bee met Wednesday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  We started the day by making our block for this month.  Above is my sample of the the Wonky Greek Key block.
Rosa shows us her finished block.  I love how she used different fabrics in this block.
Cathy made this lovely block.
Adrienne shows us her beautiful block.
After we finished our blocks, we worked on our own projects.  Above is the applique block that Adrienne was working on.  I love the interesting way she uses fabrics.
Cathy and I worked on our blocks for the upcoming Grand Rapids Modern Quilters meeting.  Above is my block.
This is Cathy's block.  We were instructed to use fabrics that were teal, orange, and cream.
Above you can see our blocks side-by-side.  I can't wait to see all the other blocks that will go into this quilt.  I bet it is going to be beautiful!  If you'd like to find out more about the Grand Rapids Modern Quilters, their blog is on the sidebar, or you can click here.

A LITTLE LADY MAKES BEAUTIFUL QUILTS

Judi A. graciously sent me pictures of her latest finishes.  Above is her Jelly Roll quilt.  Wonderful!  I have to smile because these quilts are way bigger than Judi.  We can't even see her head or feet!
And this is Judi's One Block Wonder.  This quilt amazes me.  I still can't figure out how they make one piece of fabric look so different and so stunning.

Thank you Judi for sharing your beautiful quilts with us.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME VINTAGE?

I stopped in at the Attic Window Quilt Shop last week and the last session of El's Kitchen BOM was being held.  Above teacher Marilyn shows us her finished quilt!
This is a close-up of one of her blocks.  That little apron is so cute.
And this is a close-up of the little flower on her basket in the center of her quilt.
Sue C. had her quilt finished too.
This is a close-up of her apron block.
And these are the appliques that Sue is going to put around her center basket.
These women are so generous.  There is also a recipe in El's Kitchen book.  Marilyn made this wonderful cherry cobbler from that recipe and let me test it!  It is to die for!  Thank you so much!
This is what the group is going to work on next.  The blocks will be from the book Farm Girl Vintage and will probably begin in September.  I'm looking forward to making this one.  The Attic Window has a wide selection of wonderful 30s fabrics.  Of course you don't have to use 30s fabrics.  I wonder what it would look like in Batiks?  Or solids?  Watch the calendar for more registration information.

ARE YOU THIS PROLIFIC?

Since I haven't been able to get to the Attic Window Quilt Shop for the past few days, Diana sent me some pictures.  Kathy (above) has been busy!  I love this umbrella quilt.
Kathy also made this stunning quilt.  I think it is from a Kim Diehl pattern.
Kathy also made this adorable Noah's Ark wall hanging.  My goodness that gal has talent!

A special thank you to Diana for sending these pictures.  I'm glad I got to see these quilts.
Misti sent me a picture of what she's been working on.  I love those fabrics.  Thank you Misti for sharing with us!

I'M ONLY TEN YEARS LATE!

I want to introduce you to my BFF and former co-worker Tsigereda.  Tsigereda is from Ethiopia and when she first came to work with us she seemed to understand our difficulty in pronouncing her name and told us to just call her Rose.  She said that is what her name meant in English.  Over the years I enjoyed working with Rose and learning about her culture.  When she went back to Ethiopia for a visit I asked her to bring me back a fat quarter.  She brought back a bit more than a fat quarter and over the years I cherished those beautiful fabrics, too afraid to cut into them.  One day I realized those fabrics had been in my sewing room for ten years and I made up my mind to make a quilt for Rose.
Today I went to her place of work and gave her the quilt.  She wrapped it around her right away.
Above Rose and co-worker Connie hold up the quilt so I can take a picture.  The pattern is from the book A World of Quilts by Beth Ann Williams who used to live in Africa.
For years I was afraid to cut into the beautiful fabrics, fearful about my piecing skills.  Above is a picture of some of the fabric in the pile she gave me..
Another view of these fabrics.
Here it is on the frame being quilted.
I can't thank Tsigereda enough for bringing me these beautiful fabrics which encouraged me to stretch my skills.  I have enough fabric left now to make myself a bag.  I can't wait to show that to you.

HAVE YOU MADE A NOTEBOOK COVER?

Did you see the wonderful notebook cover tutorial that Lynn at Alamosa Quilter recently had on her blog?  I loved it and had to make one.  Since I had a couple Moda Mini Charm packs that I didn’t know what to do with, I got to work.  Above is my notebook book cover following her directions that you can find here.

She has pictures and nice directions for quilting it too.  However, I must admit I was lazy and just did straight line quilting. What I liked about these instructions is that all your seams are enclosed when you are finished. Above is what mine looks like, ready for the notebook.
I wish I had remembered to attach the “this book belongs to” square.  When I make one for my six-year-old great grandson I’ll have to do that.  So cute.  BTW you don’t have to use the mini charm squares.  Lynn shows you a number of notebook covers using various fabrics and quilting.  Check it out!

A special thanks to Lynn for these wonderful instructions.  I’m betting the Scrappers School House will want to try making some of these.

SHOW AND SHARE AND A HOT TIP

Recently we had some quilts that I didn't get to show you.  Above, Joyce shows us her quilt that she has been working on for some time.  She said she used a Jelly Roll when making it.  Isn't it beautiful!
This is another stunning quilt made by Carol Schultz.  She said this was way out of her box in color choices.  It really is something to see and I'm sorry that my camera is not doing it justice.
Judi A. has been doing some needle punch and made this darling scissors holder.
This is a close up so you can see all the little stitches she had to take.  Wow!
Adrienne had this tip to share with us.  She said that whenever she gets a business card that is on a magnet, she cuts it up and places it in little boxes like above.  This one holds her needles.  She has one for various sizes of pins too.  What a clever idea!

ALL THIS FUN IN THE NAME OF CHARITY

Rosa got several of us women to gather at the Attic Window Quilt Shop this past Saturday to sew pillowcases and composition book covers to be given to Safe Haven, a local shelter for battered and abused women and children.  Above Rosa shows us the progress she's made on her book cover.
Rosa had already made her pillowcases with these cute little ruffles.  They were our inspiration.
Lee Anne got busy and made the ruffle for her pillowcase.
HOT TIP!  Lee Anne said she zigzags dental floss onto the fabric that she wants to gather.  This way she can be assured of nice gathers and that the dental floss won't break when she is in the middle of gathering it, like thread often does.  Great idea!
This is a close up of some of the pillowcases.
Here are a bunch of them together.  We got quite a few made.  I love the fabrics used.  I must note that the two on the top (yellow and pink) did not have the ruffles because I made them and was busy dealing with other problems.  I want to thank sweet Jane for donating these fabrics.  You may remember that last week Jane brought a bag of scraps to Happy Scrappers for us to enjoy.  I pulled out two large size pieces and was determined to use them for pillowcases.  They were not quite large enough so Rosa helped me adjust and be creative to make nice size pillowcases.  Now that I see how darling these others look with the cute ruffles I wish I had done that.  Thank you Jane for the fabric donations.
Judi A. shows us her pillowcase.  If you click on the picture you might be able to see that there are fish on the pillowcase. She was worried about the direction the fish were swimming.  She said she didn't want the person to think the fish were swimming up his nose!  LOL  Cute pillowcase.
Joyce shows us her darling pillowcase with a cute ruffle.
Now for the book covers.  Above is the one I made. Did you know these composition books come in different sizes?  They may look the same, but the one I had was just a wee bit smaller than the ones that Rosa had for us.  So, be sure and measure carefully when making these.
Above is Peggy with her book cover.

Judi shows her her book cover.  It is a work in progress.

Diana finished her pillowcases and decided to do some work on her Sew Together Bag.

Jill shows us her Sew Together Bag that she worked on between helping customers.

Adrienne shows her applique block that she finished.  She said she'd been working on it for about a week and for some reason the colors were giving her fits.  It took her several tries, but she finally decided on the above.  Love it.
