I'M ONLY TEN YEARS LATE!

I want to introduce you to my BFF and former co-worker Tsigereda.  Tsigereda is from Ethiopia and when she first came to work with us she seemed to understand our difficulty in pronouncing her name and told us to just call her Rose.  She said that is what her name meant in English.  Over the years I enjoyed working with Rose and learning about her culture.  When she went back to Ethiopia for a visit I asked her to bring me back a fat quarter.  She brought back a bit more than a fat quarter and over the years I cherished those beautiful fabrics, too afraid to cut into them.  One day I realized those fabrics had been in my sewing room for ten years and I made up my mind to make a quilt for Rose.
Today I went to her place of work and gave her the quilt.  She wrapped it around her right away.
Above Rose and co-worker Connie hold up the quilt so I can take a picture.  The pattern is from the book A World of Quilts by Beth Ann Williams who used to live in Africa.
For years I was afraid to cut into the beautiful fabrics, fearful about my piecing skills.  Above is a picture of some of the fabric in the pile she gave me..
Another view of these fabrics.
Here it is on the frame being quilted.
I can't thank Tsigereda enough for bringing me these beautiful fabrics which encouraged me to stretch my skills.  I have enough fabric left now to make myself a bag.  I can't wait to show that to you.

Aren't you a sweetie, asking for just a single fat quarter. And what a beautiful quilt you've made from that tiny request! Your friend now has a lovingly made quilt to remind her of home and of her special friend in the USA. I'm looking forward to seeing your bag now.

Love the quilt. I think you did those fabrics justice and I love the smile on Rose's face.

That is so cool, Caroll! First of all, I had complete confidence in your piecing skills! Second, that's so thoughtful that you used those fabrics to make her a quilt. I am sure she will cherish it! You are the best!
