While at the Sampler class on Saturday we had a couple other firsts. Above, Cathy shows us the very first quilt that she made (some time ago). She said everything…and she stressed everything…is done by hand. She said that she was so afraid of using a rotary cutter that she cut each piece with scissors! It’s hard to believe this was her first project. This Storm at Sea quilt is stunning.
This is a close-up of her beautiful work! Look at all those points and the matching seams!
Dawn also had a first. She said this owl quilt is her first appliqué project and is also a first time quilting with her new long arm quilting machine. It is for her new grandbaby. I forgot to ask if that new grandchild is also her first.
I love this adorable quilt! I also forgot to write down the name of pattern and where it is from. Her appliqué beautiful! Great job Dawn!

Carroll, I enjoy the blog so much. Thanks for the work you do and the great pics. I'm looking forward to taking the lone star class. Blest day to you!
Loved seeing firsts! What a great idea for show and tell.
Exclamation point aside, MANY of my quilts were done completely by hand, including cutting with scissors and sewing on the binding. I don't like machines so much I discovered sewing on binding by machine just a very few years ago.
Thank you Sue. I have no way to reply to you so I'm doing it here. Hope to see you at the shop and/or Vickie's class.
A couple years ago my guild had a "bring your first quilt" day. We all brought first quilts, or the oldest ones we still had, to share for show and tell. It was a lot of fun. Some of them still weren't finished!
Yes it is Dawn's first grandchild.
My first quilt is on my bed - still my favorite! All by hand, I had no machine, no rotary cutter, nothing....starting to fray now and the binding is in tatters, but I love it dearly. I can't believe she did a storm at sea by hand for her first quilt, lol, am I impressed!!!!
ps - thanks for the link, hon!
The owl quilt is beautiful. The pattern is Remember Whooo Loves You by Acorn Quilts.
