AN ANTIQUE HANDKERCHIEF QUILT

Cathy M. was recently at the Attic Window Quilt Shop and took these photos and sent them to me.
Above, Pauline shows us her antique handkerchief quilt.

This is a closeup of one of the blocks.  Pauline said that most of these handkerchiefs came from her collection.

These photos show her family.  Pauline made this quilt for her male cousin who has studies their family's history.

A special thank you to Cathy for taking and sending these photos to us.
Great job Pauline!

QUEEN PEGGY GETS HER BLOCKS

The Bees in The Attic bee hive met at the Attic Window Quilt Shop on Wednesday.  Above, Queen Bee Peggy receives her blocks.
We were unable to put all our blocks on Peggy's "robe," so we resorted to placing them on the floor.  Aren't they beautiful!  This is probably not the layout that Peggy will use but it was a good way for us to see them all together.  I can't wait to see Peggy's finished quilt!
Next up is Pat who is Queen Bee for next month.  Above she holds up a sample block of how she wants our blocks for her to look like.
Pat has made four blocks so we are able to see how this quilt is going to look.  I love her colors.
Since this is a large block and Pat wants specific colors and fabrics in the blocks, she generously gave each of us a kit full of fabrics along with printed instructions.  Thank you Pat!  This is wonderful.
We also had some show-n-tell after the meeting.  Above Pat shows us this adorable baby quilt that she is making for the West Michigan Quilters Guild.
Cathy was working on her placemats.  She said that on a whim her son-in-law and his brother went to Japan for the weekend and brought her back this fabric.  They did a great job of picking out fabric!

Lee Anne showed us this bag that she made.  It is lovely and I look forward to making this with her.  Watch for her class in September.  It is a wonderful size and I'm thinking a great place to carry my cutting mat and rulers back and forth to class.

NEW BOM AT ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

You may remember when I told you about the new BOM coming in September at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  You can read about it here.  Blocks from this BOM will be taken from the Quilt Block Cook Book by Amy Gibson.  Cathy and I decided to play around with some of the blocks.  She gave me three blocks for me to set however I liked.  I decided to try an on-point setting and placed the green triangles around this first one.
For the next block, Cathy had some leftover purple fabric and I used it to set this block.
The last block I had to use orange.  There was a touch of orange in some of the fabrics in previous blocks, so I thought it would work.  The quilting is another story.

I decided to make a table runner and after sewing them together, I put it on the frame and started to quilt.  After the first block I realized I had a problem.  Something wasn't right, so I took the sandwich off the frame and smoothed out the back and proceeded to quilt the other blocks on the table top machine.  I was so frustrated by the tine I finished the second block, I thought about just cutting everything up an making three separate blocks.  However, I persisted, finished the quilting, only to discover nothing is flat.  The sides ripple.  I don't know what I did, but at least you can see what the blocks look like.  Most of the settings in the book are not on point.  I guess that is what I like about these blocks.  Amy has an interesting grid method that she uses and provides us with several setting ideas.  I hope you will want to join us in September for this fun BOM.  Call the shop to register so we will be sure to have enough kits available for everyone.

OPEN HOUSE AND MAKE IT TAKE IT A SUCCESS

I attended the Attic Window Quilt Shop Open House and Big Sale on Thursday as well as the Make It Take It classes.  We had so much fun I almost forgot to take pictures.  Three different projects were available for each of us to make that day.  Above is the little thread catcher that I made.  It is still a work in progress as I have to sew on the cute little buttons that will hold each tab down.
Above, teacher Barb H. shows a student how to make her thread catcher.
Kits were provided for all projects and above are the fabric choices we could pick from for the thread catcher.
Next up, Marilyn taught us how to cut and make the table toppers.
Again we had various fabric kits offered.  I chose these fabrics and made this one, which is still a work in progress.  I decided to add the binding at home.
Next, Chris showed us how to make her mystery project.
This is the cute little treat bag for that special child at Halloween.
As a sample, Chris gave us each a hot chocolate packet to slide into the little bag.  This was to show us how we could slide items inside this unique bag. You could add candy, money, gift cards.  You could even change the fabric and use it for Christmas or a birthday.
Since I was too busy sewing I didn't get student names.  However, I'm going to post pictures anyway so you can get an idea of all the fun we had.

I think it's safe to say that a great time was had by all!  If you'd like to participate in an event like this, keep an eye on the calendar because Chris usually has Craft Day in November.  That is an event I don't want to miss as Chris always provides wonderful projects to make.

READERS ARE SPECIAL!

Marjorie J. of Utah sent me this picture.  She said that so far she has collected and finished three rows of the Row by Row Experience.  A special thank you to Marjorie for sending this picture.  I am thrilled, as I am sure others are, to see these designs from other parts of the country.

Misti sent me this photo of the the Rebecca Mae Designs Dear Daughter BOM that she is making. The design is by Sherri Noel.  Misti said that she is using her scrap stash with a few new fat quarters for more color.  I love this quilt and am amazed at how Misti has done the writing on the quilt blocks.  She said she just uses the freezer paper method of applique.  Great job, Misti.  And thanks for sharing with us.

SEE WHAT THE HS HAS BEEN DOING

The Happy Scrappers met at the Attic Window Quilt Shop on Wednesday.  Since we have lots to show you I'll get right to it.  Above, Marti shows us this beautiful quilt top that she brought in to have Mary Gee quilt for her.
Mary Gee had this wonderful stack n whack quilt to show us.

This is a closeup of one of Mary's blocks.

Mary also showed us this lovely disappearing 9 patch that she is making.  She still has to add the borders.

Barb H. showed us these darling rope baskets.  Barb will be teaching us how to make them.  Watch for her upcoming class in the fall.

While at the shop today Barb worked on stitching her Mug Rug BOMs.

Oh, my!  What is Adrienne doing?  She's chanting.  She's doing a yoga Ohmmmmm.....chant in order to calm herself down.  She was stressed because she was doing more ripping than sewing.

This is what Adrienne was working on.  I love her soft colors.

Diana made this magnificent little table topper or mug rug.  Diana teaches the English Paper Piecing class and I have been begging her to let me take a picture of this before it was finished.  Today she finished it!  Wouldn't this make a nice hostess gift?  Think...the holidays will be here before you know it!  Look for Diana's monthly English Paper Piecing class on the calendar on the sidebar.

Diana will also be teaching us how to make these Stacking Pop Ups on Saturday, July 16 from 12-4 p.m.  Call the shop to register for the class.

This is a close up so you can see the detail.  This quilt is made with some of the beautiful flannels just in at the shop.  Marilyn will be teaching a class in August on how to make this lovely baby quilt.  Marilyn said that she will teach you this technique and if you don't want to make a baby quilt, you could make pot holders.  What a great idea.  Look for Marilyn's upcoming class on August 26.
