THERE ARE BEES IN THE ATTIC

The newly formed Bees In The Attic Bee Hive met today at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. Above, Cathy M. explains how a Bee Hive works and distributes the monthly schedule which indicates when we will meet and who will be queen that month.
Notice all the cell phones?  Cathy is instructing those with an iPhone how to set up an account on Instagram.  That is where we will show our blocks and ask about fabrics.  I'm at another table talking to those who have an Android.
Above, Pat shows us a sample block that she made from the book we are using.  When she is queen she expects to ask us to make this block.  Seeing this now, gives me enough time to collect some of those gray fabrics.
This is a closeup of Pat's block.  I love the fabrics she has chosen.
A few of us stayed and sewed at the shop after our meeting.  Cathy made another one of these no curve sewing blocks.
So far Cathy has made all of these blocks.  She's not sure what she intends to do with them, turn them into placemats or make a table runner.

A LITTLE PAPER PIECING

Recently I joined the Stitchery Dickory Dock Sugar Block Club.  Above is my first block.  It is paper pieced and I must say that I liked making this paper pieced block much better than I did my last one.  As you may know, I'm not much of a piecer and making these blocks helps me to increase my skills.  It's not too late to make these blocks.  Not all of them are paper pieced.

NOTE:
  • The Bees In The Attic is being formed.  It is a new Bee Hive at the shop.  We could still use another member to make it an even dozen.  Call the shop to sign up and find out about the group.  Our next meeting is May 25.  This is only a one hour meeting, but you can stay and sew with us if you like.

A PAPER PIECING TIP

I made this block for the queen of a Bee Hive that I belong to.  The pattern is Cross Point Quilt from the book Vintage Quilt Revival.  I love how the block turned out.  In fact, I was excited when I learned that I would be paper piecing this block because then I knew all I had to do was just stay on the lines as I sewed and the block would turn out to be perfect.  NOT!  The problem is, the block was supposed to end up at 12 1/2" unfinished.  Mine is ended up as a solid 12" block unfinished.  HOT TIP!  Be sure and check your guide when printing off the paper pattern.  You know, that little line on the pattern that looks like this |____| = 1".   I now understand that you should measure carefully to see that that line actually is one inch long before you print off any thing else and especially before you start to sew.  I didn't do that, assuming that I'd never had any problem before with my blocks printing off the correct size.  Well, you know what they say about people who assume.  Anyway, I have asked the Queen to send me a couple more of those light blue strips, then I can remake this block so it will end up the correct size.  Oh, joy!

A STUNNING QUILT FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Recently while at the Attic Window Quilt Shop I saw this stunning quilt.  Kathy B. made it.  The pattern is Snowmen on Parade by Crab Apple Hill.

This is a close up of some of the needlework in the quilt.  The quilt was quilted by Terry W.  What lovely work.

HAPPY SCRAPPERS ARE HARD AT WORK

The Happy Scrappers met Saturday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  We had some show-n-tell.  Above, Marti shows us a project bag that she recently made.  The front of this bag is vinyl so you can see at a glance what project you are taking with you to the quilt shop.
This is a close-up of Marti's bag.  What a great idea.  I have a piece of fabric that I quilted but could never seem to make it into a bag.  Now I know just how I can do that and show off the lovely fabric at the same time.
Jill shows us two hot pads that she made when taking Marilyn's recent class.  You can read more about Marilyn's class here.

While sewing that day, Marti made this bowl hot pad.  I think that's what you call them.  I love these and want to make some more.  Marti said that she is surprised at the number of people who have asked her for more of them.

Lee Anne worked on the bright project.  She is making a bag.  Lee Anne is noted for her wonderful bags and I can't wait to see this one.

Jill shows us this string of piecing that she worked on that day.  She is making a One Block Wonder quilt.
Sheryl didn't want me to take her picture.  She said she was just making more blocks to add to a quilt that I had previously taken a picture of.  I love her fabrics.

NEW BOOKS AND FABRICS AT THE QUILT SHOP

When at the Attic Window Quilt Shop yesterday I found new books and fabrics and was eager to show them to you.  Above are four new books that are from That Patchwork Place.

These fabrics from Kanvas are from the Mexicali Fresh line

Above are Happy Holiday by Benartex.

No!  It is not too early to think about the projects you want to make for the Thanksgiving Holidays.  Above is Welcome Harvest from Henry Glass.

This stunning panel goes perfect with the previous fabrics and is from the same line.

These fabrics are also by Henry Glass and from the Give Thanks line.

I forgot to ask Chris about this, but I saw this little applique bird and fish pattern and fell in love!  How cute.

Be sure and stop in at the shop ASAP and take a look at all that is new there.  You might find something you have to take home with you.  Your husband won't mind.

WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK FOR?

Above from Left to Right, Chris B., Jill, Marilyn, Lee Anne, Nancy, Diana
Good food, good friends, lots of sewing.  What more can you ask for?

The Happy Scrappers met Wednesday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  For those of you who couldn't make it, you really missed something!  Lee Anne surprised us with an astounding lunch of home made barbecue, pickles, and chips.  What a surprise!  Thank you Lee Anne for this very special treat!

After we got our tummy full, we settled down to work. I almost forgot about taking pictures.  Above is the impressive hot pad that Marilyn K. was working on today.  If you are interested in learning how she does this, ask about her Make It Take It class.  You can make one in no time.

Marilyn also made this adorable hot pad.  Love those fabrics.

Cathy, who stepped away when I took the first picture of us eating lunch, shows us this paper pieced block that she made.  The pattern is from the Stitchery Dickory Dock Sugar Block Club.

HAVE YOU DONE NO CURVE PIECING?

I saw an entire quilt made of this block when recently on the Reach For The Stars Shop Hop.  I doubt that I will make a full quilt, but I did want to try the No Curved piecing that it talks about on the pattern.  The pattern is Swirl-Wind by H.D. Designs.  It comes in two block sizes   One pattern includes directions for a 14" block and an 18" block.  I made the larger block into this table topper using batiks and an Umbrae fabric.  I love how it turned out and am anxious to see how it will look in other fabrics.

Jill recently showed off this beautiful quilt at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  She just picked it up from her quilter, Carol Huster. Jill said that she has to get the binding on real quick because it is for her God Daughter who graduates this month.

While I was at the shop, Jane brought in this awesome king size quilt for Carol to quilt.  If you are interested in having Carol quilt for you, contact the shop.

IT'S CHARITY TIME AT THE ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

Mary T. showed the members of the Charity Quilts group this stunning quilt.  Mary said that it is going to the local Veteran's Administration and will be up for auction at their upcoming event.  The Charity group meets on the first Monday of the month at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.   Mary who run the group, says that they are always looking for sewers and/or for donations of fabric and batting.  Contact the shop for more information.
This is the back of Mary's quilt.  Love that fabric.

Laura brought in this stack of quilts that she made for Charity.
Mary W. brought in all these quilts that she had made.  They will go to Charity.

Above are members of the Kids Quilts charity group.  They now join us on the first Monday of the month and make the cutest quilts.
Mary T. worked on this darling quilt today.

 Laura made this beautiful quilt.

Yvonne worked on an Around The World quilt.  The picture does not do the fabric justice.  It is awesome.

Lee Anne was busy working on this bright colored quilt.

Barb made this adorable quilt.
And I worked on making blocks for an Irish Chain quilt.  It is important to note, these fabrics are donated by members of the group and also by all you who lovingly give from your stash.  Thank you so much!
