OH, OH, THEM IS FIGHTING WORDS MAM

Misti recently showed me this University of Michigan Quilt that she made for her son.
This is a larger view.  Misti hasn't been quilting that long and is doing a wonderful job.  This is her own design.
She also made this Lions quilt for her step daughter.
And Misti made this adorable Christmas ornament that she gave to me.
Like I say....there was a little tension between us.  I made this Michigan State quilt for my Grandson!  There is just a wee bit of rivalry between these two schools.  LOL

Thanks Misti for sharing your beautiful work and for the lovely gift!

SHOP NEWS:
  • A new Seasonal Sampler is planned. NOTICE:  I need to clarify some things because I was confused. The new Sampler starts in January.  It is the same as last year in that you will use the tool to make a block each month and have a large quilt at the end of the year.  The reason you are to sign up for a season is because that will be your color choice!!!  If you signed up for winter, the fabrics in your kits will be in winter fabrics.  You will receive autumn fabrics if you signed up for the autumn season, and etc.  Call the shop if I’ve confused you more.
  • A new Applique BOM is planned, as is a Modern BOM
  • There will also be a Make It and Take It project planned each month.
  • Mark your calendar now for the Heart of Winter Tour on February 7th.   The bus will take you to four different shops.  Lunch and dinner are included.

A TABLE TOPPER FOR ANY TIME OF THE YEAR

Julie L. sent me pictures of the Table Topper that Barb Vis made.  The pattern is the one that was distributed during Craft Day.
It looks like she made some hot pads too!  Love that striped binding.
This is another view of this darling table topper.  This pattern is so versatile and looks great in many different fabrics.  You can get it at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  It is Nine-Patch Star by Pieced Tree Patterns.

Thank you Julie and Barb for sharing with us!

SNOW WOMEN MELT YOUR HEART

Several people have asked about the Snow Woman quilt that I posted here.  Vickie S. sent me this information today:  “I believe the Snow Women quilt is from Pearl Louise Designs, and it is called "The Shivers & Shakes Family Album."

Thanks Vickie!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!  Are you ready to quilt?  I'm exhausted so will be taking a couple days off to rest and relax.

CHECK OUT THE BINDING ON CATHY'S QUILT

Cathy stopped by today to show me this quilt that she had just gotten back from the quilter.  Isn’t it stunning!   It is for her daughter who picked up the print fabric while in Turkey.
Cathy also wanted to show me the binding that she is attaching.  It is called a two color binding.  Cathy said she got the idea from Sew Mama Sew who has a list of different binding tutorials that you can find here
This is a closer view of the quilt.
I had to take a picture of Cathy’s earrings.  So cute!
Cathy also brought me this little Winter Mug Rug that she made.  I love it and will think of her each morning when I drink my coffee.  I always use a mug rug to protect my coffee table!  Thanks Cathy.  You are a talented lady!

PS:  Several people have asked about the Snow Women pattern that was on the blog here.  I’ll post about it when I learn the details.

Until next time,

STILL TIME TO MAKE THAT GIFT!

Time is running out and Christmas will be here before we know it.  However, you still have time to make this cute little gift.  Above is the bowl potholder that Julie Lewis made.
This is another view.  Julie, who is the leader of the doll making class at the Attic Window Quilt Shop, said she got the tutorial from a link on one of my blog posts.
I asked Julie to take several pictures and send them to me. As you can see above, the potholder is reversible and is great when using a microwave.  I love seeing what everyone is doing, especially when it is from a link that I’ve placed on a post.  That tutorial can be found here.  Thank you Julie for sharing this beautiful project with us!

 Until next time,

A REAL ONE BLOCK WONDER!

Don’t you just love this peacock!  I recently took the picture when at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.

I don’t know if the fabric is at the shop, but it is the fabric that Vickie S. used to make this beautiful quilt.  It is a One Block Wonder.  Watch for Vickie’s classes in the New Year.
These are placemats that Vickie is making.  She will also be teaching a class on these “Set For The Season” placemats.
Above she shows us her beginning of another placemat with winter fabrics.
This is another Lone Star Swirl quilt that Vickie just finished.  She is not only a fantastic teacher, but she has a gift for choosing the right fabrics!

WOULD YOU CALL THIS MODERN?

I saw the above quilt at a recent meeting of the Grand Rapids Modern Quilt Guild and had to take a picture of this and another piece that Mary showed.  You can learn the details and see other beautiful quilts by going here and scrolling down.

I wanted to show you this today because I’ve been asking myself what makes a quilt modern?  Ask ten different people and I bet you will get ten different answers.  Is it solid colors?  Is it negative space?  Is it the straight line quilting? I hope to explore this question at the next meeting of the Mod Squad at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Come and investigate Modern Quilting with us when we meet on Wednesday, January 28th, 2015.  Let’s learn together and see where the road takes us!

We will also be having a BOM to help us step out of our box and learn how to build “modern” blocks.

Mary Lou Weidman once said during a class that I attended, that she believed that people had so many UFOs because they got bored making the same blocks over and over.  Trust me, you won’t be making the same block twice throughout the year.  And I bet you won't be bored!

SATURDAY HAPPY SCRAPPERS SHOW STOPPERS

Several months ago the Happy Scrappers made Christmas ornaments from scraps.  They have been on display at the Attic Window Quilt Shop so customers could vote on which they liked best.  This past Saturday the winners were announced.  Above is the winning ornament.  It was made by Judy F.  The Shop presented Judy with a gift certificate for the winning prize.
These are the ornaments entered in the contest.
There was a tie between second and third place.  The shop presented those winners each with this nice packet of fabric, candy and a lint roller.  Thanks Chris for these great gifts!
Another wonderful thing happened.  Above, Rosa (left), hugs Val (right) and is thanking Val for this darling bag that she made and gave to Rosa.  Val said it is for Rosa’s granddaughter to carry her dolls in.  Aren’t quilters the best!!
Remember those blocks I showed you yesterday that Adrienne was making from her pile of scraps?  This is what she is making with those blocks.  It’s going to be another stunning quilt by Adrienne!
Sheryl is working on her table runner.  This pattern and some of the fabric were in our Craft Day kits.
Chris showed us this adorable pillowcase that she made for her grandchild.
Above are three more pillow cases waiting for the names to be applied.  Chris said she is sorry, but there is no more of this snowmen fabric in the store!  Darn!
Jill M. stopped in the shop and showed us this beautiful quilt.
Look at the monkeys quilted on her quilt!
Jill M. also showed us another scrappy quilt.  I love that scrappy look!
Above is part of the group sewing and socializing.  Such a fun group.  Won’t you join us next year?

WEDNESDAY HAPPY SCRAPPERS MEET

The Wednesday Happy Scrappers met last week at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Jane shows us the quilt she was working on.  She also had another quilt, Café Au Lait, but the colors were so light that the picture didn’t do it justice, so I can’t show it.
Paula shows us her latest finish.  The pattern is Yellow Brick Road and the fabric is Moda’s Little Black Dress.
 Lee Anne made pillowcases.
This is a close-up of one of those pillowcases.  Don't you love those kitty cats?

Another close-up of one of Lee Anne’s pillowcases.  Another beautiful fabric!

Adrienne brought in this pile of scraps…
And started making these blocks.  I can’t wait to see what she will do with them.
Judi has been busy.  She showed us these items that she made on her new fancy I-can-do-anything sewing machine.
Look she made out of those items in the previous picture.  Isn’t this stunning!
Peggy spent her time working on this darling night gown.
