Not much sewing going on around here this week.  I did get some time to work on these blocks that I started when at Happy Scrappers at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  I think I'll make four more blocks, apply a border and quilt it.  It is a great way to use up my scraps.
This is a closeup of the block.  Each square in the block is 2 1/2 inches.  I think the most time consuming was going through my scraps and cutting the squares.  You can read more about this block (name and where to find the pattern) by going here.

        LOVE THIS GIFT BOX IDEA

Cathy sent me pictures of this fabric gift box that she made.  She was working on it at Happy Scrappers at the Attic Window Quilt Shop and I asked her to send me pictures when she had it finished.
This was about as far as she got when at Happy Scrappers.  This is the bottom and outside of the box.
Above, is the completed box.  I love it!  What a nice gift for a loved one.  The pattern is from Geta's Quilting Studio and there are three different designs included in the pattern.  Thanks Cathy for sending pictures.  You did a great job on this box.

HOW ABOUT A LITTLE ART DECO

When the Happy Scrappers met at the Attic Window Quilt Shop on Wednesday, Sue L. showed us this stunning quilt that she just got back from the quilter.  Sue brought it with her so she could do the hand sewing on the binding.  She said that the pattern for this quilt can be found in the book Design Art Deco Quilts by Don Linn.
This is a close up of the quilting that Mary Gee did for her.  Mary is a long arm quilter.
Mary Gee also had a quilt to show us.  I love this Christmas quilt that she just finished.
Mary made and quilted this quilt.  Above you can see the quilting design she used.
This is the backing she chose.  The picture doesn't do it justice but you can see her quilting.
I took this closeup of Mary's quilt mostly for me.  I have a ton of Christmas fabrics and now I know just what I want to do with them.
During the day Mary worked on making this block.  I think if is for the Farm Girls group that she participates in at the shop.

Cathy  worked on something new that wasn't close enough to a  finish for me to take a picture.  The same with Diana, who is working on a new paper piecing design.  I made two more Electric Avenue blocks for that charity quilt that I started last week.  I might have gotten more done, but got distracted by the various conversations going throughout the room and had to do some un-stitching and re-stitching.  But I'm not complaining because it was so nice to be with friends.  We had cookies and fruit and dip and lots of conversation.  We didn't want to think about the -1 deg. temperature outside.  Yikes!

            A QUICK GIFT IDEA

Are you in need of a quick gift?  How about this cute table topper that I saw recently at the Attic Window Quilt Shop?
As you can see, the pattern is called Origami and is by Pieced Tree.
I am ashamed to say that I started the above table topper last year during Craft Day.  Today I put the binding on it and it will be gifted.
Today my day was mostly all about preparation.  After finishing the table topper above, I cut about a thousand 2 1/2" squares from my scraps.  Not my favorite thing to do, but since Wednesday is Happy Scrappers at the Attic Window, I thought I would get prepared to sew.  I wanted to make more of those blocks for the charity quilt that I started last Saturday when at Happy Scrappers.
The weather forecast is snow this weekend, so I plan to stay inside and sew.  In preparation, I put this table runner on the frame.  Oh, joy, more snow!

NEW FABRIC ARRIVED AT ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

When recently at the Attic Window Quilt Shop I saw that some new fabrics had arrived.  Above, is Cowgirl by Riley Blake.  Don't you just love those cowgirl boots?
This selection is called Meadow Sweets by Penny Rose Fabrics.
               Above is Toscana by Northcott.
This is also part of the Toscana line.  I know the picture isn't that great, but you can still see some of these lovely fabrics.  After being snowed in for two days I'm ready to start a new project.  Can't wait to get up to the shop and get some of these new fabrics!

Hope everyone makes it to Happy Scrappers on Wednesday!

                THE SNOW DIDN'T STOP US!

Happy Scrappers met this past Saturday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  As I drove toward the shop trembling and driving about 10 miles an hour in the snow, I wondered if anyone would show up.  It was our first big snow of the year and the roads were treacherous. Also, I know everyone is busy at this time of year, getting ready for the Christmas holidays, traveling, attending parties.  But I was determined to make it.  I needed some socializing before the Big Storm hit the next day which promised to keep us house bound for at least the next two days.  Being house bound is great for sewing, but I need to talk to people!  And did we talk and sew.   Above, Nancy shows us the block she made that day.  I love those fabrics!
Peggy worked on this table runner.  It is the same pattern that we used for making the QAYG table runner during Craft Day.  However, Peggy thought it needed to be jazzed up.  Above, she auditions the border fabric and adding another border of squares.  I think I like it much better like above.  Great idea Peggy!
I started a new Charity Quilt.  I wanted to use up some of my scraps and spent a great deal of time cutting 2 1/2" squares.  The pattern is Electric Avenue from the magazine Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Winter 2015.  I think this will make a pretty quilt.

Hope everyone makes it to Happy Scrappers on Wednesday!

                  CRAFT DAY PROJECTS FINISHED

Today I finished the projects that I started on Craft Day at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  I was so excited that I had to show you.  Above is the snowman candy bag.  After stitching on the face, I had to fold it several times to get it right.  As I said the other day, this was a bit of fabric origami.
I just had to do some top stitching on this table topper.  I love the pattern and fabrics.  In fact, I liked it so much that I bought another kit so I could make another one.
I have seen these tri fold bags in the shop but always shied away because of the zipper.  I struggle with zippers.  However, Diana made the entire bag so easy.  I'll probably make more of these too.
I put the binding on the table runner.
This is a closer view.  I love the fabric.  I also liked that it is a quilt-as-you-go pattern.  Love that!
Here is everything all together.  What a wonderful and productive day it was.  I hope Chris has another one in the Spring!

A LITTLE CRAFT DAY OF MY OWN

I was thrilled when my Granddaughter Toni asked if we could have a craft day like we had last year.  I had almost forgotten that last year some of my great grandchildren came over for an afternoon and we played in my sewing room making Christmas ornaments.  So, last weekend we had Craft Day at my house.  Above is Toni and my great grand daughter Claire.

Here Claire shows us her cyclops snowball.  How original!
Nora is in the first grade and she made this cute ornament.
Above is granddaughter Kim and great grandson Carter.  Here he shows you a snowman he made of all buttons.
Carter is hard at work peeling crayons to make stained glass ornaments.
He also made a door knob hanger.

The Moms had to help with a few things.
I don't think this is an ornament.  Carter made this and he said it is a snowman on skis and it will sit under the tree.
Claire made this cute little kitten in a stocking.
This is a picture of just some of the clever creations they made that day.  Oh, I forgot, we made paper beads too.  See the necklace above top right that Nora made?  What fun!  I have lots more pictures but don't want to bore you.
And then they were gone.  I miss them already.  Before they left I made them promise to come back next year for Craft Day at my house.
When they arrived the sun was shining and all was dry.  When they left, this is what it looked like outside.  Let the fun begin!

CRAFT DAY AT ATTIC WINDOW A SUCCESS

Craft Day was held this past Friday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop and, oh, my, you are going to be so disappointed you didn't attend.  Above is the first project we made.  Marilyn (left) was our teacher and showed us how to make this darling table topper.  The pattern which was included in our supply kit, included directions for making this in four different sizes.  Also in the picture is Lynn W. (middle) and Jeane G. (right).
Joyce H. (left), Dee H., Peggy F., and Betty K. also show us their table toppers.  The pattern is Anything Goes by Tiger Lily Press.
Next on the agenda Diana showed us how to make one of these Little Jewels bags.  This pattern was also included in the kits provided and includes directions for making them in four different sizes.
Above is a bag and table topper.  I snapped this when no one was around, but I think they belong to Joyce.
This is from the pattern Fabulous Folded Bags and is a bit of Fabric Origami.  Above it holds candy which Chris provided for us who needed nourishment.  This pattern is by Desiree's Designs and includes directions for so many different bags that I can't name them all.  I'm thrilled that it was included in the kit provided as I already am thinking of using this pattern for an Eater Bunny Bag.
You couldn't see it in the previous picture, but the bag included this snowman face.  We pressed on the eyes, nose and mouth, and Chris painted the lashes and cheeks.  Then we stitched around the pieces fused and on the line of the mouth.  So adorable.
Above, Lynn, Joyce, and Jeane show us their bags.  It looks like they might still have some stitching to do, but I was in a hurry to get a picture before our next project started.
Dee shows us her bag.  And Betty shows us her bag.  She decided to make hers a little different.  She wanted the blue fabric to show, so she did a decorative stitch along the edge, did not add the snowman face, and folded her bag just the opposite of what the others did.  It is so cute.
For our next project, Chris showed us how to make a quilt as you go table runner.  It is from the pattern Jana Made It, by Pieced Tree.
Above, we show you our table runners.  We still have to add our black binding, but it was getting late and I wanted to get a picture of us together before people started going home.   It was a long day, starting at 9 a.m. and there were four fantastic projects to make.  Then we had to take a little time off for lunch.  Everyone brought a dish to pass and Chris provided the main item for the meal.  There was way too much food, and of course we had to take time to eat and socialize.

A special thanks to Chris and the Attic Window Quilt Shop and the teachers, Marilyn and Diana for making this a wonderful day!
