A NEW GAME BAG

Hello Quilters!  I hope everyone is staying warm and getting lots of sewing done, especially if you live in the Midwest where you should not be outside anyway.  I hope to get a lot of sewing done these next few days because it looks like we're in for a long haul of cold snowy weather here in Michigan.  I do have something to show you.  I made this bag for my granddaughter, who obviously went to Michigan State University.
A few years ago I took a class at the Attic Window Quilt Shop from Vickie S. where we made a large ruler bag.  Since my granddaughter wanted a bag for a new game board, this bag had to be at least 30" x 30".  So I decided to increase the size of the ruler bag I made in Vickie's class. Above, I placed an 8" x 10.5" notebook on the bag so you can get some perspective of bag size.
Above, you can see where I placed the notebook in the pocket.
Here,  my granddaughter gets ready to put the game board into the bag.
I was worried it wouldn't fit, but it looks OK.
Above, she places the game pieces into the pocket.  It was a fun project, and a challenge since I couldn't find the pattern and had to call my DIL and ask her if I could borrow my ruler bag back (she snatched it up when she first saw it) so I could see how it was made.  LOL  I love it when my kids like what I make.

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS?

I haven't made it to the Attic Window Quilt Shop yet this week, so I don't have much to show you.  I did want to show you this adorable little mug rug that Cathy made for me.  I love cats and this one is so cute!  Thank you Cathy!
I have been working on a project for my DIL but this morning I got sidetracked. I watched the Craft Channel.  There was a video on How To Sew A Broken Herringbone Patchwork.  I had to try it.  I love using my scraps and this was the perfect way to use them.  I hope to continue with this and make a large quilt like in the video.  You can watch it here.

HAVE YOU SEEN 3D FABRIC?

Have you seen this new 3D fabric at the Attic Window Quilt Shop?
This panel and the coordinating fabrics are "Undersea Adventures" by Northcott.
You get a pair of 3D glasses when you purchase the panel.  Think of how much fun that child/grandchild will have using those glasses to view that new quilt you made him/her.
These are the coordinating fabrics to go with the panel.  Stop by the shop this week and get started on that project for your favorite child.

TEACHERS MEET AT THE ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

A teacher's meeting was recently held at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Above, left to right, Chris B., Vickie D., Lee Anne K., peeking over Lee Anne's shoulder is Marilyn K., Vickie S., Sue C., Cathy M., and Caroll D.
Chris (owner) had some announcements:
  •  Now that that inventory is completed, she has lots of new bolts of fabric marked down to $8.00 per yard!
  • There is an additional 50% off on special already marked down items: fabrics, books, patterns, notions, and samples.
  • An End of Bolt sale is going on.  When you buy what is left on the bolt of specific fabrics, you get 30% off that fabric.

The teachers shared what they are working on.  Above is the bag that Marilyn made and will be teaching a class on  how to make it.  The pattern, Trifecta Zip Bags comes in 6 sizes and is by Emmaline Bags.
I'm not sure who made this, but this pattern is quite interesting as it is reversible.  Above is one side, and
This is the other side.  So pretty! The pattern is Flower Petals Table Settings by Wonder Woman Quilts.

Marilyn showed us her latest finished quilt.  This pattern is Tibet by Villa Rosa Designs.
Note:  You may get all the above patterns at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Just call the shop and those you want will be ordered for you.
This beautiful block was made by Vickie S.  She said she is participating in the Floragraphix Batiks BOM Enchanted Garden.  I'm eager to see it finished!

NEED SOME PIECING PRACTICE?

I think I have lost my mind. I haven't been able to get to the Attic Window Quilt Shop since last week and that is enough to make me a little crazy. But I have too much to do.  My DIL has asked me to make three table toppers, my granddaughter wants a bag for her new game, and my friend wants a quilt. I purchased the fabrics a while ago. And what do I do?  I decide to make the first block of Pat Sloan's Out of this World BOM mystery quilt.  I went through my scrap pile and found some fabrics that I thought would work. and made this block.
Here it is on a different background.  It was a challenge, but I really needed to get some piecing practice in before I started on those other projects.  I had company and way too much fun over the holidays and didn't make it to my sewing room as much as I would like to.  You can read about the BOM and get the pattern here.  I hope I can keep up with her BOM this year.

DID YOU KNOW?

Hoo!  Hoo doesn't know about all the wonderful new BOMs at the Attic Window Quilt Shop?  I love this little Owl Coin Purse that Sue made.  It is a Cut Loose pattern and you can get it at the shop.

Marilyn and Sue are starting a new Vintage Christmas BOM.  Participants have two choices of fabrics for their kits.  You can choose the Batiks (left) or the brights (right).  This group starts in February and meets the third Wednesday of each month. Call the shop to register.
The group will be using the book, Vintage Christmas by Lori Holt.
Also, did you know about the Civil War BOM?  Above are some of the blocks they have been making.  These are lovely and I so admire the work by the women making them.
Why?  Because they are working with very small pieces.  These tiny squares above that are used to make a 5 1/2" nine patch have a finished size of 1".  Wow!

ATTENTION:  Is anyone interested in participating in the Queen Bee BOM.  We will be using the same two books that we used last year.  Anyone interested, please plan to attend the first session on Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 10 a.m.
Also, if you are interested in attending the Starburst BOM, the group will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 11 a.m.  All who are interested are invited to attend this informational meeting.

AlsoCathy would like to know if anyone is interested in a BOM that includes a paper piecing and traditional piecing combination of contemporary and traditional type blocks.  If so, call the shop.  We were thinking of maybe a Wednesday afternoon class.

HAPPY SCRAPPERS MEET AT ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

Today when the Happy Scrappers met at the Attic Window Quilt Shop, Robin showed us her latest piece that she was working on.  She has a new grandson, just 2 months old, and this quilt is for him.  She designed it herself, with the corner blocks depicting things that his mom and dad like.  It is so cute!
Peggy showed us this block.  It is for the quilt that was started last year during the Queen Bee BOM.  She's going to get this one done.  Love that block!
Most of us were busy sewing our scraps to make the blocks that Mary showed us how to make last month.  Above, Cathy has a good start on sewing hers.  She said she took all the left over fabrics from previous quilts that she had made and cut them to size and is making her quilt.
I grabbed a couple of her pieces and put them together to see how they would look.  I think this will make a great quilt, don't you?
Janalee sewed on the binding for her quilt today.
And I sewed on the binding for my quilt today.  Both Janalee and I are giving our quilts to Charity.  Janalee is taking them to a battered woman's shelter in Grand Rapids, MI.
Above, Mary (left) shows Janalee how to create another block using your scraps.
This is the block that we will try next.  Mary says you can intermingle the blocks (use the blocks from the quilts we just made as well as this block).

A NEW YEAR ANOTHER BAG

Hello Quilters!  I hope everyone had wonderful holidays.  I certainly enjoyed seeing all my family.  I did want to show you the bag I made for my daughter for her iPad.  I love this pattern.  It is quick and easy.  I can't tell you how many I've made.  You can get the pattern when you buy a kit at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  What is especially nice about this kit is that you can make it in several different sizes.   Be sure and check it out when you are at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  I'm sure you will love it.
Don't expect to find this fabric at the shop, however,  I made the bag from some scraps I had.  You can see the inside in the first photo.  My daughter loved the contrasting zipper.  I didn't have time to shop for fabric when she asked me to make the bag for her, so I just grabbed something I had in my stash.
