CHECK OUT THESE BEES IN THE ATTIC

Say hello to the Bees In The Attic.  A new Bee Hive has been formed at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Above are the participants.  We would like two more Bees to join us, so if you are interested in joining this fun group, give the shop a call.  We meet monthly on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 10 a.m. for about one hour.  You may stay all day and sew if you like.

Above, Cathy explains to the group how the Bee Hive works.

Other activities were going on at the shop.  Above, Marilyn shows Yvonne and Rosa how to make the Folded Star Ornament.

That Yvonne.  She always gives me a bad time when she sees me with my camera.  She's making the sign of the cross she says to ward off the devil (that's me).

Jill (left) is also learning how to make the Folded Star Ornament. Marilyn (right) is a great teacher!
Lee Anne worked on making this beautiful quilt.  It is made from a charm pack and yellow fabric for the sashing.  She is giving it to Charity.

HOT TIP FROM READER

Kathy, a reader, and I were recently sharing comments about a bag that I wanted to make and that she is in the process of making with her granddaughter.  We were motivated by a video on Missouri Quilt Company & Crafty Gemini.  Kathy said though the video stressed using double sided fusible foam stabilizer, she used non-fusible.  She thought stitching it with the sew and flip method would work.

She said, "I also found my vintage Singer 15-91 machine the best one for moving through the thickness as we had trouble with the featherweight."

Here's the tip:  Kathy said that apparently she or her grand daughter did not take enough seam allowance at one spot and a seam started to come apart.  Since she didn't want to spend a lot of time unstitching all those strips, she came up with a solution.  She placed these darling white appliques over the seam and hand stitched them down.  Now no one is the wiser.  I think it adds a touch of charm to the bag.

What a clever idea Kathy.  Thanks for sharing!

ANOTHER PLACEMAT

Isn't this stunning!!!  Gail C. send me a picture of her placemat that she made using the same design that I used on my placemats that I had on the blog yesterday.  I love the colors she used!  I wish I could have shown you the plates that she is using with them.  Her plates had a beautiful contrasting trim.  However, I couldn't get the picture to download.  Thank you so much Gail for sharing your lovely mats with us!

Have you been visiting the shops participating in the Search For The Stars Shop Hop that is going on this week?  I'm sure the Attic Window Quilt Shop has been busy. Cathy, Diana and I finished visiting all the shops today and boy are we tired!  But it was so much fun and we saw so many new projects.  It's always great to see what others are doing and get new ideas.  Actually, I shouldn't say we finished visiting all the shops, because we were so tired we plan to individually visit the Attic Window Quilt Shop tomorrow.
I don't want to miss getting this free pattern that the shop is distributing.  I love this table topper. DON'T FORGET that the shops participating in the Search For The Stars Shop Hop are open until 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday of this week.  Your passport is only $5 and each shop will give you a free star pattern plus there is a 16% discount on all full priced merchandise.

MATS AND A SHOP HOP

The Search For The Stars Shop Hop is going on this week.  I'm sure the Attic Window Quilt Shop has been busy.  However, I never made it there today as Cathy, Diana and I participated in the Hop, which meant we were busy shoppping. What fun!  We visited about five of the eleven shops on the list.  I'm exhausted.  We plan to get rested tomorrow so we can finish visiting all the shops later this week.

I did want to show you some placemats that I made for my DIL.  She picked out the fabrics because her tastes are so different from mine.
This is the four of them together.  The pattern is Twist 'N Twirl Placemat by Cut Loose Press. Be sure and stop by the Attic Window Quilt Shop and pick up a pattern and the Scrap Crazy Creative Grids ruler and the Bosal Craft Pack.

By the way, DON'T FORGET that the shops participating in the Search For The Stars Shop Hop are open until 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday of this week.  Your passport is only $5 and each shop will give you a free star pattern plus there is a 16% discount on all full priced merchandise.

NEW FABRICS AND A NEW QUILTER

New Fabrics and New Quilter at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Jill sent me this picture saying that Michaela and Grandma Yvonne stopped by on Spring Break to sew with the ladies! Thanks Jill for sending this picture of Michaela.  She is adorable.  I wonder if Grandma helped her make that purse??

Jill also sent pictures of new fabrics in at the shop. Above is  Robert Kaufman's Urban Zoologie Minis & Remix

Flip Flop Island is by Exclusively Quilters.

New flannels are also in at the shop.  All of them were not yet out of the box, but I couldn't wait.  I had to take a picture of these luscious flannels.  The line is Ric Rac Paddywack by Henry Glass.  I'll get a picture of the rest of them next week.  You will want to see and touch these wonderful fabrics!

HAPPY SCRAPPERS AT THE ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

The Happy Scrappers met Wednesday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Above Lee Anne shows us what she worked on that day.  What a beautiful charity quilt this will make!
We can't see the English Paper Piecing that Diana worked on because it is so small.  Diana likes working with small items and does an excellent job of it.  I wish I had her patience.
Mary G. worked on this lovely quilt.  She said she bought all the fabrics at the Attic Window.  I don't usually work with blues, but I really like this one.  Hope she will bring it back for show-n-tell when it is finished.  Mary is a long arm quilter and I'm sure this quilt will be stunning.
Peggy shows all the paper pieced blocks she made that day...well, maybe she didn't make all of them on Wednesday, but she is really making progress on this quilt. Seeing her blocks makes me want to make another one of these quilts.
I worked on making some placemats for my DIL but forgot to take a picture.  I'll show you once I have the binding on.  After that I practiced on my machine applique.  I need a lot more practice at this. But I am finding it fun, which surprises me since I have always preferred my freezer paper method.

ARE YOU INVOLVED IN A BOM?

Misti has been making the blocks for Pat Sloan's mystery quilt too.  Above are the four blocks that she has made.  I love seeing what others are doing with these blocks.  Misti's are so colorful!  I love them.

Misti also sent me the above picture.  This is what she says:
  • Here is a cute little apron I whipped up last night for my daughters boyfriend's niece.  Jayda challenged Emily to a “cup cake off”, lol.  I told Em we needed to make her an apron for the event!  She likes the NY Buffalo Sabres hockey team so I made the apron in their colors.  I think it turned out adorable!  Hope she likes it.
I am amazed at how much Misti gets done.  She puts me to shame.  Thanks Misti for sending.  You inspire me!

HAPPY SCRAPPERS SHOW OFF

The Happy Scrappers met Saturday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Although only a few of us attended, we had quite a show-n-tell!  Above is the Eames quilt that Cathy M. just finished.

Her quilt is 80" square and the blocks encompass various techniques.  She perfected her curved piecing and some of the blocks were paper pieced.  Cathy did her own quilting on each block and then put the quilt together using her own QAYG method.

This picture shows you the back of her quilt.  Perfect backing for a perfect quilt.  You can learn more about this quilt on Cathy's blog here.

As I said the group was small on Saturday which made it great for sitting, sewing, and sharing stories.  Marti worked on the binding on her quilt.

Nancy worked on her Chicadee BOM that is held at the shop.

And I finished my block for Pat Sloan's Mystery quilt.  After it was finished, I wished I had added some yellow to the block; however, I'm not doing a do over now.

YOUR KIDS WILL LOVE THIS

Imagine this.  It's afternoon.  Your child is bored.  You place on the table this adorable chalkboard placemat that you just made.  Beside it you set several pieces of chalk.  You then tell your child to sit down and you will get him some milk and cookies.  Your child smiles with delight.  His eyes light up.  His chubby little fingers wrap around the white stick of chalk as he sits down and goes to work.

Silence fills the room.  No more whining.  No more getting into mischief.  No more talking at the top of his lungs.  There is only the light scratch of chalk against fabric as your child becomes creative.

You stand in the kitchen and watch as your child draws on his chalkboard placemat.  "That's a cow." he says.

Secretly  you are thrilled he told you and didn't ask.  You take a deep soothing breath and your stress level lowers.  Now you can get some things done while your child eats a cookie and makes chalk drawings on his new chalkboard placemat.

You can get this chalkboard fabric at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Make one for each of your children or grand children. What a great idea.  What a joy it will be for them to receive an unexpected gift.

There are a multitude of things you can do with this new chalkboard fabric.  Treat yourself  TODAY and get your mind off these rainy days.  Go shopping at the Attic Window Quilt Shop!
