DOLLS, TOUR, AND A LITTLE BIT BIASED

I stopped in at the Attic Window Quilt Shop today and the Doll Bee was meeting. Above Barb H. shows off her adorable Santa dolls that she was in the process of making. Those ladies do such fantastic work! It's always fun to drop in at the shop on Thursdays just to see what they are making.
Don't forget to save the date and to call the shop today to get your place on the bus. It's sure to fill up fast. I'm saying that not only from past experience, but because today is Halloween and it is already snowing here, and I'm thinking it's going to be one of those winters when I won't be able to get out of the house very often, much less drive around to the quilt shops, and by February I will be going stir crazy and will be grateful to get out of the house and have someone else drive me to the quilt shops. (take a breath)
Have you worked with bias strips? This was a challenge several years ago and I saw something like this on Hexicat's Instagram post and decided to try it. I love this table topper. I learned to work with bias and it gave me an opportunity to practice a little FMQ. You can make a table topper with me on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Call the shop to register and get a supply list.

A SIGN YOU SHOULD TAKE A QUILT CLASS

Quilters are the best!  And Chris at the Attic Window Quilt Shop is the best teacher.  I noticed that my quilts tend to not lay flat and thought maybe this is a sign.  Though I'd been quilting for years, was it time to take a class?  I did, and among other things, Chris taught me how to measure and add borders so my quilt will lay flat. Wow!  This technique is awesome. I recommend all quilters take a Beginning and Intermediate quilt class from Chris.  She is a wonderful teacher and will share all her tips and techniques so you can make beautiful quilts.  A great big Thank You to Chris for teaching me her method for attaching borders.

NEW FABRIC AT ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

Check out this new panel at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  It is stunning.
I'll show you a few of the individual blocks to give you a better look.

Aren't these awesome!  I don't have a place for the panel but I'm trying to think of what I can do with the individual squares.  They are too pretty not to have or give as a gift.

These are the coordinating fabrics and are from P&B Textiles.  You better hurry to the Attic Window Quilt Shop before they are all gone!

PAPER PIECING BEE MEETS AT ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

I attended the Paper Piecing Bee at the Attic Window Quilt Shop today.  Such a fun group!  Above, are two of the blocks that Carol P. made today.  I think she said she was making them into mug rugs.  So great for this time of year!
Carol also made these adorable heart mug rugs.
Cathy M. made this pretty pineapple block.
She purchased this packet of pre-printed pineapple Quilt Block Foundation Paper to make the many blocks she will need for her quilt.
And I made these two blocks.  The free pattern is from Leila Gardunia, which is on my sidebar.
Lee Anne stopped by and showed us this beautiful quilt top that she had just finished.
She made it from a star pack like above.  The pattern is included when you purchase the packet.
However, you don't need to use that pattern.  Above is a quilt that Julie made from a star packet with a different color way.  This pattern can be found in the book 12-Pack Quilts, which you can get at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.

I didn't get the table runner finished yesterday because I took my 95 year old friend to lunch.  It was her Birthday!  I also made this little mug rug for her.  It was fun creating from my scraps and fun spending time with her and our friends.

FROM LOG CABIN TO TABLE RUNNER

Hello Quilters.  How was your weekend?  In our part of Michigan it was cold and rainy today.  I'm dog sitting my son's Boxer, so that has kept me busy.  However, I did get a little sewing done.  Some time ago Chris, owner of the Attic Window Quilt Shop, gave me some blocks and fabric saying that I could make more blocks and put together a charity quilt.  Well, I did make more blocks but discovered there was not enough fabric for a quilt.  However, I did manage to put together enough blocks to make these three large blocks (above).  This was a challenge in itself because I don't remember making this log cabin block before and I had no pattern.
Obviously these blocks were not large enough for a quilt. but I could make three table toppers or put them together and make a table runner.  I thought about using this strip between each block.
Then I decided to sew the three large blocks together like above and...
I will use this bottom piece of fabric for binding.  As you may know, my piecing skills leave a lot to be desired.  I struggled with this.  Since some of the blocks were sewn by different people and on different machines, I had a difficult time getting them all sized the same.  Also, some of the blocks were put together differently.  You may have noticed how the red center squares are not in the same place.
Anyway, I think it will make a nice table runner and who looks that close anyway.  Maybe I can practice some FMQ on it.
Thanks Chris for the blocks and fabric!  This has been a fun challenge.

NO DAY IS A WASTED DAY

I'm afraid to say that when the Happy Scrappers met at the Attic Window Quilt Shop this past Wednesday, we didn't get much accomplished. There was just way too much gabbing and laughter and looking at all the new things in the shop that we didn't have time to sew.  Above is all the sewing that Mary did.
And this is all I got done. One seam! Gads! We may not have accomplished much sewing, but No Day Is A Wasted Day.  There was lots of laughter and smiles and talking. I have read that socializing is good for your brain, so it was a great day for this old gal.

AN OUT OF THIS WORLD QUILT

I saw that Julie B. had posted a picture of her "Out Of This World" quilt, a Pat Sloan BOM, and it inspired me to sew my blocks together.  I used scraps and really enjoyed making these blocks.  Now to decide on the borders.
This is another picture of my quilt.  The first one was taken in the house and looks washed out, so I took it outside and spread it out on the grass.

Don't forget that Wednesday the Happy Scrappers meet at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Hope to see you there.  All are welcome.

YOU CAN MAKE THIS MUG RUG

It's that time of year!  I couldn't resist making this when I saw it on Freemotion By The River blog.  I love mug rugs and this one is perfect for this time of year. Connie will send you her free pattern and tutorial.  All you have to do is sign up for her newsletter.  Her blog is on my sidebar, but you can also click here to get to it.  This was such a fun project. Quick and easy and a great way to use your scraps!

There is a lot going on at the Attic Window Quilt Shop this week, so I spent the rest of the day getting things ready to sew during Happy Scrappers on Wednesday.

ANOTHER WAY TO USE YOUR SCRAPS

All this rain has gotten to me and I needed something to cheer me up, so I started playing in my sewing room.  I needed to create.  Make something different.  I had seen some improve paper piecing on Instagram and decided to try that and at the same time use some of my scraps.  I came up with the above.  I think I will bind it in that dotted fabric, place some Insul-Bright in the sandwich and use it as a hot pad.  Maybe I'll make some more for Christmas.  It's a great way to use your scraps to be creative.  Maybe you can try it at the next Happy Scrappers meeting at the Attic Window Quilt Shop this coming Wednesday, October 9.

A LITTLE THIS AND THAT

This is an update on the post yesterday.  Toni sent me a picture and said that she is almost done with the binding.  So cute!
I don't think you've seen these blocks.  They are from the Vintage Christmas BOM at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.

Here are a couple close-ups.
I've been working on these triangles.
This is my last block without the wings and the book they are from.
Don't forget to come join me in making this foot pedal pad that keeps your foot pedal from sliding across the floor.  The date is Friday, October 18.  You can choose your time:  10-12 or 2-4.  Call the shop for details.
