MUG RUG MAKING DAY AT THE ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

We made Mug Rugs at the Attic Window Quilt Shop on Wednesday.  I'm not sure what the ladies were talking about when I took this picture, but I am sure that everyone had a great time.  All that laughter going on convinces me of that.
Marti got right down to business and was the first to finish making her Mug Rug.
Above, Marti shows her finished project.  She used Michigan State fabric and fussy cut to get her unique design.  I love it.  I forgot to ask her who she was making it for.  I know my granddaughter would want one of these.
This is a closeup of Marti's Mug Rug.  Fantastic!
Next to finish her Mug Rug was Joyce.  There were three different designs each participant could chose from.  Joyce chose this one.
This is a closeup of Joyce's Mug Rug.  I love the decorative stitching around the edges.
Joyce was a bit of an over achiever.  She finished two mug rugs and started to make a Dresden plate one. She said she was surprised at how easy it was to make the Dresden blades.  I'm eager to see this finished Mug Rug.

Above, is the start of Greta's Mug Rug.  She decided to use the Dresden ruler to make her Mug rug.

Greta added her own style to her design as she made two rows of blades.  The small brown pieces on the edge are fabrics she was auditioning for the binding. Also, Greta wanted to hide behind her Mug Rug when I took the picture and I made her lower it so I could see her face.  What a pretty smile!
This is a closeup of Greta's Mug Rug.
Can you guess who is making this Dresden Mug Rug?
Here is the completed Mug Rug.
And who is it hiding behind this colorful Mug Rug?  Can you guess?  She's the one who keeps us all laughing.  That Rosa...she wouldn't lower her Mug Rug for me to take the picture.  We got a good giggle out of it.

It was a fun and productive day.  I hope everyone enjoyed the class as much as I did and will join us at Happy Scrappers and other events and classes at the shop.

HAVE YOU STARTED YOUR CHRISTMAS PROJECTS?

Are you ready for Christmas?  Probably not, but now is the time to start thinking about those projects you want to make and the gift items to get finished.  Misti said that one morning she couldn't sleep, so she got out of bed and made these Christmas trees before she had to get ready for work.  Aren't they adorable?
This is another view.  She said she will  use them on top of her packages or maybe even a few on her tree.  Wish I could be as productive in the wee small hours of the morning!
Today Misti sent me this picture of her Christmas Balls.  She made these while camping this weekend.  She said a lot of pins are needed, but they are easy to make.  Misti plans on giving these beautiful balls as gifts.

WARNING SIGNS OF THE FUTURE

WARNING #1 - Snow is on it's way.
Recently I stopped in at the Attic Window Quilt Shop to find that the Doll Bee was in session. Julie L. who heads this group told me that you can make these small snowman with her, as a class is being offered on Nov. 5 and/or  Nov. 12.   It is a one session class.  The fee is $5 and the pattern is $9.50.  Julie asks that you please sign up two to three weeks in advance so that she can get the patterns in on time. The Snowman is 5.5" inches tall and has a flannel stocking cap and fabric scarf. It has tiny twig hands and stitched eyes and mouth and a toothpick nose. Call the shop to register.
WARNING #2 - The Big Bad Wolfe is on his way.
The day that I was there, the women were making Little Read Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf.  Above is Barb V.'s dolls.
I had to show you a close up of this Bad guy with his tongue hanging out.  So cute!
While there, Julie showed me these apples they were making for Red's basket.  I can't imagine working on something so small!  Note, in above picture they are in the basked Red is carrying.
Later in the day, Julie sent me these pictures of a quilt that Shirley Starts made.
The pattern is Vintage Tin from Crab Apple Hill.
A close up of Shirley's beautiful work.
Julie said that Shirley is very proud of this quilt and well she should be.  It is stunning.

WORKING FOR OUR VETERANS

This past Saturday Rosa had a gathering of her Schoolhouse Scrappers and they made pillowcases for Hospice.  Some of the regular participants were on retreat, but the rest of us arrived at the Attic Window Quilt Shop when it opened and got down to the business of sewing.
About a month ago I put out a call for donations of red, white, and blue fabrics.  I was in awe by the response.  Several boxes full of scraps arrived at the shop.  The donations were made anonymously so I cannot mention names, but all of us want to thank you for the wonderful boxes of fabrics.  Above, Lee Anne irons some of the fabrics before sewing.
Prior to our arrival, Rosa had measured, sewed, cut, and made kits.  This was fantastic since all we had to do was pick up a kit and start sewing.  Above, Yvonne is sewing a pillowcase.
After a while, it dawned on us...Diana had brought her serger.  So we set up a kind of assembly line. Depending on the sewer, Diana was asked to serge different aspects of the pillowcase.  For instance, I was making a French seam around the side and top of the pillowcase, encasing the seams so no raw edges showed.  Then I realized, I could speed things up by having Diana serge those seams.
Diana's help really made a difference.  You can see above all the pillowcases the five of us made that day.  In fact, I think there were two pillowcases that didn't get in the picture because they were still at the sewing machines.
This is a close up of all those lovely donated fabrics.
And this is another close up of the pillowcases.  I hope you anonymous ladies know how much we appreciated your generous donations.  I understand that the representative from Hospice asked that red, white, and blue fabrics be used as there are about 50 veterans currently in Hospice and she would like to give these pillowcases to them on Veteran's Day.

Several of us took kits home so we could get more made during the following month.  Please feel free to join us in October as we will again be making red, white, and blue pillowcases and need your help.  Mark your calendar and join us at the Attic Window Quilt Shop on October 17.  If you would like to bring your serger please do so.

NEW RUBY SHORT MCKIM FLOWER BASKET BOM

Do you remember this beautiful quilt block.  I have previously showed it.
I showed you this block too.  Vickie S. made them and she will be the first teacher for this new BOM.
Above, Chris explains to customers and students about how they too can make these stunning blocks as well as learn new techniques.  These patterns are from McKim Studios.  You can learn a lot when you participate in the Ruby Short McKim Flower Basket BOM which starts at the Attic Window Quilt Shop in October.  These lovely 12" blocks can be made using various techniques, which you will learn throughout the months.  There are 32 blocks in the pattern, which was first designed in 1934 and was printed in newspapers across the country.  The quilt will finish at 80 X 97.  This pattern is not available online and can only be purchased at the Attic Window Quilt Shop and one other shop in Michigan.  The BOM is scheduled to start in October.  Come sit and stitch and learn a new technique each month.  Call the shop to register.
