STILL LEARNING AND PRACTICING

Last week at the Attic Window Quilt Shop I took a class on Free Motion Quilting.  Above is the teacher Diana (left) and student Marilyn Z
It was a fun class.  First Diana showed us how to do meandering.  The techniques she showed us make this easier and better looking than I have been able to previously accomplish.  (please disregard the mess in lower right).
My big issue is gaining control.  First we started out making loops of various sizes.  I still have a lot of practice to do.  I came home telling myself I would practice at least 15 minutes a day.  So far that has not happened.  Well, I had to get ready for the holiday.  Now I'm off to my sewing room.  A special thank you to Diana for a wonderful class.

NEW FABRIC AT THE ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

What better way to end the week or start the holiday weekend than stopping in at the Attic Window Quilt Shop and picking up some new fabric! Above is the Harlo line from QT Fabrics.
This is Thoroughly Modern by Marcus Brothers Fabrics.
I had to show you a close up of this one.  So beautiful!
I couldn't get a good angle on the bolts, so I took a picture of the fat quarters.  This line is called Olivia by QT Fabrics.
Above is Labrador by QT Fabrics.  I see lots of possibilities with these.

Be sure and stop in at the Attic Window Quilt Shop this weekend to see and buy some of these gorgeous fabrics.  Remember the shop will be closed on Monday, May 28th, for Memorial Day.

BEES IN ATTIC BEE HIVE HOLDS FINAL MEETING FOR THE SEASON

Barb was the Queen today when the Bees In The Attic Bee Hive met at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  We found the crown.  Can you see Barb is wearing it?
These are the blocks we gave her.  We couldn't find the cape, so we placed our blocks on the table.    Last month, Barb gave us each a kit with fabrics of her choice.  She had even cut the pieces to size.  All we had to do is sew them together. We commented on how much we love the colors and the fabrics.  Barb said that when she was at a shop in Indiana, there was a boat filled with fat quarters.  So, she grabbed all yellow and blue FQs that she could find.  What a great idea!

This is the last meeting for the group this season.  We hope to all get together in the fall and start another Bee.  Mark your calendar and watch for a post of our upcoming meeting.  There is room for all to join our group.  It is a fun group of ladies and doesn't require much time.

Peggy also had some show-n-tell for us.  Don't you just love this quilt that she made for Neonatal?
When I commented on the beautiful fabrics, Peggy told us that she used to make quilted jackets.  She said she had an unfinished one that had been laying around for years.  So she tore it apart and used these beautiful fabrics to make her quilt.
She also quilted it herself.  She has an embroidery machine that lets her do quilting too.  This design is great for a baby quilt.
Peggy also showed us this beautiful quilt that she is going to take to her cottage.
Thank you Peggy for sharing!

And thanks to all the members of the Bee Hive.  It's been a fun year and I hope you will return in the fall for more socializing and making quilts.

IT HAPPENED AT THE ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

Hello Quilters.  I hope you had a wonderful weekend.  I didn't get to spend much time in my sewing room this weekend.  Yard work and out of town company demanded my time (and I did watch "The Wedding" while getting ready to go to my great grandson's baseball game).  Above are some of the bags that we made when the Happy Scrappers recently met at the Attic Window Quilt ShopCathy M. filled them with personal items and will take them to Degage's Open Door Open Heart program.  We will make more of these bags when the Happy Scrappers meet again next month.  They are fun and easy and for a worthy cause.
I did put together this little table topper.  When last at the Attic Window Quilt Shop I picked up some of that new fabric I previously told you about.  I had to make something with it.  However, as I look at it now, a couple of things need to be changed, so I guess I'll get out my favorite seam ripper and get to work.

TRY A MAKE IT TAKE IT CLASS or A STITCH-IN

Not much going on around here due to the fact that the weather has finally decided it's spring...I hope.  I nearly froze last Wednesday sitting with my winter coat on as I watched my great grandson play baseball.  This week the weather is behaving and I've been working in the yard.  I did want to tell you about some things that are happening at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  There is an Itty Bitty Skinny Clover class on Monday, May 21.  This is a make it take it.

Also, a Stitch-In has been added to the Calendar.  On Friday, May 25 and Saturday May 26, there will be another stitch-in.  Don't forget, if you come to two stitch-ins you only pay $5 for the two of them (not $5 each).

Don't forget that  Starburst BOM begins Wednesday, May 23 at 11 a.m. at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  You will be making two blocks each month.
Suggestion:  We suggest that you stay and sew during the afternoon for the first few months to learn how to use the ruler and make the blocks.  As you gain experience, you may opt not to attend class or enjoy the free sew and socialization time and just pick up the monthly fabric kits.
Notice:  Space is limited.  Registrations must be in by Friday, May 18, so that your kits and space will be guaranteed.

Please call the shop for details on price, discounts, supplies needed, and other information for this class.

SHE'S BACK!!!!!

What a wonderful time we had when the Happy Scrappers met at the Attic Window Quilt Shop this week.  We were surprised and filled with joy to see our friend Lee Anne after her absence due to surgery.  She looks fantastic! As a special treat after her long absence she received this quilt.  Chris wanted us to sign the white snowballs but we were afraid it wouldn't work because it was quilted.
This is a view of the full quilt.  Lee Anne, we have really missed you.  You are a friend, a great teacher, and you make us Happy Scrappers smile and giggle.  We and look forward to your full recovery and joining us full time soon.
We had another surprise.  Vickie S. came to join the Happy Scrappers. She did hand sewing that day, but had this quilt top with her.  She didn't want me to take a picture because it is not quilted yet.  But I convinced her that it was just too beautiful to make us wait.  It is king size and is paper pieced.  This quilt is truly stunning! Thanks Vickie for sharing.
The rest of us got busy and sewed these small bags for Cathy.  She will add the drawstring and add small personal items to the inside pockets, then give them to Degage's Open Door Open Heart program.
Above, Cathy, Janalee, and Mary show us some of the bags they made.  These women are to be commended for giving up their personal sewing time to make these bags.  And a special thanks to Cathy for the suggestion, donating some of the fabric, and all the personal items.  You guys are the best!

Don't forget that  Starburst BOM begins Wednesday, May 23 at 11 a.m. at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  You will be making two blocks each month.

NEW CLASS AT ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

This is a reminder that the Starburst BOM begins this month at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Above, are the samples I made for the class.  Cathy wants to make her quilt using the yellow background so these blocks will go to her. I want my background to be in a white on white fabric.
Actually, this is another picture of the same block with the yellow background, but something happened to the camera and the background looks white, so I decided to show it to give you an idea of how these beautiful starbursts will look with a white background.
I have to show you this one with the black and white background.  It was my first experience with the ruler.  I think I'm going to make it into a table topper.  Since you will be choosing your background fabrics, I thought maybe this will give you another background idea.
Here is Cathy showing us a sample of one of the blocks you will be making.
Above are more starbursts that she made when trying out this wonderful Creative Grids ruler.  Please note that these are just try-out samples and the fabrics you will be getting in the kits are different and you will chose your background fabrics.

The Starburst BOM begins Wednesday, May 23 at 11 a.m. at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.

MAKE THESE GAIL WILSON DOLLS WITH JULIE

Julie, who heads the Doll Bee, sent me this picture.  She says,

"The mammy doll is from Gail Wilson's historical doll series.  The dolls in this series are American folk style dolls.  This doll in particular is a 13" tall flatt bottom table topper mammy style doll with embroidered facial features.  Patterns are available at Gail Wilson Designs.

Anyone interested in the class will need to get their own pattern, body fabric, and stuffing from Gail Wilson prior the the class. Pattern is $20. Class will be Thursdays in June. 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Class fee is $50 for the four weeks, or five if they need more time, but she is pretty quick. If things go well, I’ll offer this class again in summer.  Mine is on the left, Shirley’s is on the right. Julie"

Thanks Julie for sharing.  I can't get over the wonderful dolls you and your Bee members make!

DON'T FORGET:  The Search For The Stars Hollywood Style is now in progress.  You can read all about it here.
