PETAL PILLOW CLASS WITH DIANA

Take a look at this beautiful pillow.  Can't you just see the smile of your friend's (or mother's, or daughter's) face when she learns you made this lovely gift for her. This is a 14" pillow with a flap covered zipper closure on the back. The pattern also comes with an optional flower table mat using only one or two rows of petals around the outer edge. You can make this pillow with Diana when you take her class on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. Call the shop to register for the class and get your list of needed supplies.

APPLIQUE CALMS ME

Happy Monday everyone.  I hope you had a wonderful weekend.  This applique piece is all that I accomplished.  I don't know where the time goes.  This little applique is the first of many from the book Whimsical Wool Applique by Kim Schaefer.  I picked the book up last week at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  I love applique but do not work in wool, so I'm making all my flowers in cotton.  The book shows all the flowers with a dark background, but I thought this sunflower needed a sky blue background.  I love walking into my back yard and seeing the sunflowers bobbing their heads against the beautiful blue sky.  Anyway, it was fun to make.  I'm not sure how many I'll get done this year as we're moving into that busy time of year and I'm thinking about gifts to make.  Can you believe it is almost November!

A FUN DAY AT THE ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

Shirley (left) and Mary (right) show off their blocks they made today during the Going To The Dogs class at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.
We used the QAYG and fusing method of applique.  I snapped this picture of Mary's dog as she was placing her pieces before they were fused to the quilted background.
Above is Shirley's dog all fused and some of it stitched down.
I hope Mary and Shirley enjoyed the day as much as I did.  I love creating these fun dogs.  The pattern is from the book Happy Quilts.  Guess what, you can get it at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.

The Doll Bee was also in session today.  Above, Connie works on her Santa Doll.
This is what Connie's Santa looked like early in the day.
And this is what Connie's Santa looked like at the end of the day.  So cute!

CRAFT DAY INFORMATION

When the members of the Bee Hive and First Blush met today at the Attic Window Quilt Shop, Barb had some show-n-tell for us.  She made this lovely strawberry quilt for her aunt.
This is a closeup of the strawberries.  This is a beautiful quilt and I'm eager to see it when it is quilted.

The Bee Hive decided to not meet again until January, due to all the activities during the next two holiday months.  We will continue to use the same two books:  12 Pack Quilts and Fat Quarter Style.  Some of the rules will be changing so mark your calendar for the 4th Wednesday in January.  I think you'll like some of the surprises we have for you.  And, yes, I mean You,  We would like you to come join us in the fun.

First Blush is continuing as usual. Anyone interested is welcome to attend on the fourth Wednesday of the month.

CRAFT DAY:  Some of the members had never attend Craft Day and had some questions. What happens is you come to the shop with your sewing machine and tools and you sew all day making projects from the kits provided.  You can go Here to see all the items we made in 2016.

These above are what we made on Craft Day in 2015.

And these are the five items we made in 2013.  Each year we attend Craft Day looking forward with excitement at what we will be making that day.  It is always a surprise.  Space is limited, so call the shop and sign up now.

IN TIME FOR THE JINGLE BELL HOP

You might have seen my post on Monday where I told you what I did with my left overs.  Today I wanted to show you where those left overs came from.  Above is the table runner that I made as a sample for the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  I wanted it to be there in time for the Jingle Bell Hop.  I purchased all the fabrics from the shop but still had to audition some of my own. (just in case I had a better idea. Wink)   I decided to use the original fabrics that Chris helped me pick out.  However, I couldn't let those discarded pieces go to waste.
So I finally finished this table runner  I love the fabrics that Chris picked out.  The pattern is Mod Ornaments Runner and is from the book The Joyful Stitcher
Another closeup of the ornaments.  The runner is 18.5 x 46.5.  I used the freezer paper method of applique, using cotton fabrics.  The book calls for wool for the applique.  I imagine you could also use cotton and the fuse method of applique.  You can get the book and fabrics at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Take a look at the beautiful wools while there.  (Maybe someday I'll learn to work with wool.)

And, I wanted to show you some new fabric in at the shop.  This adorable panel is all Flannel.  It is Frosty Friends by Henry Glass & Co.

MAKE YOUR LEFTOVERS FUNCTIIONAL

Hello Quilters.  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  What did you do?  I played.  I had some left over pieces from a table runner that I was making for the Attic Window Quilt Shop for their Jingle Bell Hop and decided to not let them go to waste.  I made a hot dish mat and a coaster.
This is a close up of the hot dish mat.
I hesitate to show you this coaster, because it is far from perfect, but figure it will be okay to use during the upcoming holidays.
I also made this hot dish mat. After experimenting unsuccessfully with free motion quilting, I was going to throw it away.  Then wondered if it would look any better with a binding.  Guess it's not too bad and may come in handy when I need another hot dish mat when company comes during the holidays.

SEEN AT THE ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

Recently while I was at the Attic Window Quilt Shop, Jill stopped by to pickup a quilt that Carol Huster had quilted for her.  I had to get a picture of this beautiful quilt.
What really impressed me was the back of that quilt.  I later discovered it is a cheater fabric, but it sure looked like someone had done all that piecing.  This is a great reversible quilt!
Also, while at the shop I saw this lovely table runner.
This is a closeup of the wonderful fabrics.  You can get the pattern and fabric for this quick 5 minute table runner at the shop.

HAPPY DOGS FROM HAPPY QUILTS

Just a quick note to remind you that the Going To The Dogs class is this Friday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. The QAYG and Fuse method will be used to make these blocks.  You can make one for a pillow, or wall hanging, or make several to go into a quilt.
You can also use your imagination.  All the dogs are the same in the pattern in the book Happy Quilts, but I get bored easily and tried to make each one a little different.  I hope you will join me Friday in making this fun quilt.  Call the shop to sign up and get a supply list.

HAD A GREAT TIME AT THE FAIR

The Attic Window Quilt Shop was all decked out for the season during the Country Fair Road Tour this past weekend.

These are just some of the things you saw when you entered the shop.
Of course there were snacks, but there was also a demo.  This is the table runner that Diana showed you how to make.
Above is her demo board so you could see how all the pieces came together.
This Creative Grids Non-Slip Multi-Size 2 Peaks in 1, 6" Triangle ruler is what she used to make the table runner.  She also shows you several different ways to put the blocks together. This ruler is one you will use more than once!
Above, some customers watch Diana's demo.
Another customer plays a game and wins a prize.
I don't know what you call this game but when you get two balls tangled on the ladder, you win!
Another customer takes her turn and wins a prize too.

This is a busy time of year and if you missed the fun of this Country Fair Road Tour, you can take part in the Jingle Bell Hop next month.

WHY JOIN A BEE HIVE?

Diane made this stunning quilt while participating in the Bee Hive.

ATTENTION:  Looking for quilters who are interested in sewing with other like minded quilters, having fun, and meeting new friends. You can do this by participating in the Attic Window Quilt Shop Bee Hive.  Don’t know exactly what to expect.

Here is the skinny:
Twelve women get together once a month.  Each month, one member of the group is chosen as the Queen Bee for that month.  That person gets to choose a quilting block from one of the two books being used, and everyone in the Hive makes that block using the colors and fabric placement chosen by the Queen.

Costs involved:
You will be sewing from your own stash of fabric, although please note that you may be required to purchase bits and pieces throughout the year. Also, at times the Queen Bee may supply you with the fabric she wants you to use, or she may just request specific colors or shades be used, or that a scrappy low volume background be used.  You get the picture. However, a Queen cannot request specific brands or types of fabric be used unless they are willing to supply you with that specific fabric.  You are required to purchase the books if you do not already have them, and there is a $5 monthly charge to the shop (for heat, lights, toilet tissue, use of various paraphernalia  that we forget to bring, etc.)

Some of the women who participated in the Bee Hive last year are participating this year also.  However, we are still looking for more participants to complete the Hive.  One month YOU will be queen and receive 11 blocks of your choice from the other members.  Please call the Attic Window Quilt Shop to get your name on the list.  Each month, if you wish, you can stay and sew with your friends.

Advantages of belonging to this bee:
Learn New Techniques
Meet New Friends
Have Fun

Roxanne shows us the quilt she made from the blocks that the Bee Hive members gave her.

We will meet on the Fourth Wednesday morning of every month.  Be sure and mark your calendar now and come to the Attic Window Quilt Shop on Wednesday, October 24 at 10 a.m.
Hope to see you there!  PS:  We promise we won’t make you wear the crown if you don’t want to.

You can see more quilts that the members made by going Here.

SEEN AT THE QUILT SHOW

Good Morning Quilters.  I hope everyone got to attend the West Michigan Quilter's Guild quilt show this past weekend.  It was wonderful. And I hope you got to stop by the Attic Window Quilt Shop booth.  I was going to take a picture of the booth but got to talking and forgot.  Actually, I didn't get to take as many pictures as requested because I got sidetracked by all the wonderful quilts and seeing friends I hadn't seen in a while.  This picture above did draw my attention.  I have no idea who made this adorable quilt since there was no name next to it.  I was surprised at the number of fused quilts on display.  I have recently discovered fusing and I love it.
This quilt is Frog Days of Summer by Jane Becker and Bonnie Rhoby.
I marveled how Bobbie Vruggrink used fabric to "paint" this stunning Zenia.
This is Traverse Bay Splendor by Jer Hon-Hawkins.  This quilt speaks to me!

That's all folks.  Don't forget the:
