MORE NEW FABRIC AND BOOKS!

When I was at the shop earlier this week I noticed more new fabrics and books and had to show them to you.  I love this fabric above.  It is Just Dreaming 2 by Riley Blake.
These are the coordinating fabrics from that same line.
Remember this doll?  This is a new panel in at the shop.  The Doll is larger than the one I saw a couple of years ago.  This is called Paper Doll Bakery by Penny Rose Fabrics.
Jill held up one of the fabrics from that same line so I could take this picture.  Isn’t this fabric darling?
And these are the rest of the coordinating fabrics.
Above are two new books that I found fascinating.  Sew and Play, Handmade Games for Kids is a must for me.  I saw a number of items I want to make for my great grandchildren.  Cups and Saucers, Paper Pieced Kitchen Designs is another must for me.  I like paper piecing and these designs are so cute.

DO YOU DO MODERN? DO YOU DO APPLIQUE?

The Applique Bee and the Mod Squad (Modern Bee) met this week at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Above is the cute little block that Peggy was working on at the Applique Bee.  I love how she is embellishing it.  Would you know this is a block from Whimsical Garden?
Mary Ellen was working on this adorable basket quilt.
We had an interesting discussion at the Mod Squad on Wednesday.  The topic was “What is Modern?”  As you might guess, the thoughts and sentiments were varied.  But we all came to consensus about our First Block of the Month, which Adrienne volunteered to demonstrate.  Above she showed us this traditional stacked coins block.
Then she showed us her version of The Leaning Stacked Coins.  Adrienne did a beautiful job of showing us how to make this block, which was not easy.
Adrienne is so generous! She also brought in a tub of scraps for us to use when making our blocks.  Above, Cathy and Diana sort through the scraps.
It took us most of the day to make our blocks, but I think we were pleased with the outcome.  Above are blocks by, top left to right, Adrienne, Caroll.  Bottom, left to right, Peggy, Judi.  We could have placed them all in the same direction, but thought they were more interesting like this.
This is Diana’s block.  The darker background really made her colors pop.
Chris gave us a small corner in the classroom to hang our blocks. Be sure to take a look when you stop by the shop.  Thank you Chris!!!  And Thank you Adrienne for presenting this block today and helping us make our blocks.

I'm looking forward to our next block in February.  Won't you come join us?

DON'T FORGET the after Inventory and Pre-Super Bowl Sale will be held this week, January 29 through January 31,  at the Shop!  There will be up to 50% off on select fabrics, books, patterns, notions.  Also there is a special mark down on already sale fabrics.  Stop in at the shop and take advantage of these fantastic prices on Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

MORE FABRIC, BOOKS, PATTERNS

Isn’t this a darling table mat?  Sue C. made this wool sample for the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  The pattern is called Winter Crazy Table Mat by Primitive Gatherings and is available at the shop.
There are also a few new books in at the shop.  Above is All About Strips and Fast-Piece Applique.
And I have more new fabrics to show you.  Above is Rainbow Tropics by Kanvas Studios.
This is called Flirt by Windham Fabrics.
Above is Blue Bell by Windham Fabrics.
Mystic Topaz is by Exclusively Quilters.
This is Made With love by Kanvas Studios.
I have to have some more of this fabric.  I made a pillowcase out of it for my great grandson.  The Fabric is Monkey Around by Henry Glass.
There is also a panel in this line.  You can make a book out of the blocks, or pillows, or a quilt.  I like that there is plenty of space around the blocks so you can cut them out and not lose any of the block when sewing into your project.
This is Dinasaurs by Riley Blake.

ATTENTION:  Many readers liked the Green Farms fabric that I showed yesterday. Ivory Spring wrote me that she will soon have a free pattern for you and she made it up in that Green Farms fabric.  If you visit her blog today you will see she has an At The Pond free pattern.  Be sure and check out her blog daily which is on my sidebar.  You won’t want to miss it.

This is a close up with some of the coordinating fabrics.
Above is Kitty Kitty Knitting by Kanvas Studios.
Love this one called Steppin’ Out by Henry Glass & Co.
This is a close up of the coordinating fabrics.

YOU WILL WANT TO DO THIS

How does your calendar look?  Now is the time to make your plans for next week because there are a lot of fun things happening at the Attic Window Quilt Shop that you are sure to enjoy.  On Tuesday, there is a morning Bee and then at 1 p.m. the Applique Bee meets.  At the Applique Bee a new BOM is being introduced.  Above is the piece I’ve been working on.  I’ll be demonstrating how I do Needle Turn.
And I’ve been prepping these pieces to demonstrate how I do freezer paper appliqué.  You don’t have to use my methods.  There are various ways to do appliqué and you are free to use your method of choice for this fun quilt.  Also, you don’t have to participate in the BOM and are welcome to come to the Bee and do other handwork with us.
On Wednesday the Mod Squad Modern Bee meets.  We are also introducing a new BOM and will be discussing the topic, “What is a Modern quilt?”   Is it solid colors that make it modern?
If you take a traditional block like above…
And turn it into this…is it Modern?  Come and join us in discussing this fascinating topic and then, if you like, participate in the BOM.  This BOM has 12 “modern” blocks made in the colors and size of your choice.
Saturday is the first Make It Take It of the year.  Each month a different project will be presented.  Above Marilyn shows us the bag we will be making.  If you are interested in participating in the Make It Take It, please call the shop and register.

Check the calendar on the sidebar or the Newsletter here to see more fun happenings at the shop next week.

Mark your calendar now for the Heart of Winter Tour on February 7th.   The bus will take you to four different shops.  Lunch and dinner are included.

JUST WHAT THE DIL ORDERED

I haven’t done much sewing lately because I’ve been spending my time on the couch nursing a head and chest cold.  However, I did manage to finish a couple table runners that I had started last year.  Sometime last year my DIL gave me a two packages of Tonga Treats and asked me to make these table runners for her.  Above is the Four Square Table Runner.
This one is Migrating Geese Table Runner.  I’m glad she gave me her fabric choices so that I know she will like them.  In fact when I was visiting Sunday she cleared off her dining room table and put one table runner there and then did the same thing with a coffee table.  They really looked nice.  And it gave me satisfaction to know the colors were her choice and that I actually did accomplish something this year!  Now I’m off and running on my next project.  More about that later.

HEART OF WINTER TOUR:  Have you signed up yet?  If you are wondering what it is all about you can check here and here.  Your price for the bus ride to the four different shops includes lunch and dinner.  Call the shop to register.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS?

I was stunned when I found out about this quilt.  Above Cathy M. shows us her latest finish.  When I asked her about the pattern, she giggled.  "It is last year's Sampler!" she said.  I could not get over how making those blocks in solid or nearly solid fabrics gives the quilt a whole new look.  I made my blocks in the 30s fabrics and it sure doesn't look like this!  I asked her to bring it to our Modern Bee so they could see the change a fabric choice can make.
A couple of things that Cathy did do differently, is that she did not use sashing between her blocks.  She said she wanted a lap size quilt.
Also, notice her border!  She used all her left over pieces, sewed them onto used dryer sheets and created this border.  She said that after she had some scraps sewn to a dryer sheet she even did a slice and insert (see above). How clever.  Cathy is one creative gal!

DON'T FORGET:  The Mod Squad (Modern Bee) meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  All are welcome.

NEW SAMPLER SERIES AT THE ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

These are sample blocks of this year’s Sampler series at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  This year’s Sampler is a little different in that it is called a Seasonal Sampler and each participant chooses which seasonal colors she would like for her kits.  Above  top, left to right, Winter, Summer.  Bottom, left to right, Christmas, Spring.

It is not too late to register for this Sampler series.  There are three different times that you can attend each month:  First Saturday of the month, Second Monday, or Second Tuesday.  See the Newsletter for times.  NOTICE: There is one slight change for February.  Due to the Heart of Winter Tour which takes place on the first Saturday of February, the Sampler will be held on Second Saturday in

SHOW N TELL AT HAPPY SCRAPPERS

Happy Scrappers met last Wednesday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Above Jane shows us this Dolphin quilt that she made for charity.
Jane also showed us this finished quilt.  It is Café Au Lait and the pattern was in The Quilter magazine Jan. 2005.  I love the soft, calming colors of this quilt.
Diana worked on this petite little block.  I think she said it was 4 ½” and is for her last year’s Sampler quilt.
