SAMPLER AND A NEW TOOL

Last Saturday I attended the Sampler class at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  There was some Show N Tell, too.  Above Judy shows us the quilt she made using the Lil Twister tool.  She said she saw the pattern on Freemotion By The River.  Isn’t it darling!

Judy also made this table runner.  The pattern was the one offered by the shop during the Heart of Winter Tour.   Won’t this green look nice on her table during the month of March?  I love the clover that she stitched in the squares too.

Judy also showed us this quilt.  She calls it her all male quilt because each of the blocks has “man things” on it.

This is a close up of one of the blocks.  I sure wish I could find that fabric!

Chris also did a demonstration using a new tool that she has in the shop.

This ruler is the Double Strip Tumbler ruler.

Above you can see how the pieces go together.

As you can see, along with the ruler, there are several patterns available also.  Everyone was talking about the Red Solo Cups pattern.

I’m placing this on the blog for those taking the Sampler class.  These are the blocks we will be working on this month.  Several women have asked me to post a picture so that when they get home and forget what fabric is to go where, they can look at the blog for verification. (If truth be told, I'm doing it for me.  Memory...oh, where for aren't thou?)

MISSING MODERN MONDAY

I’m missing Modern Monday, so even though that quilt-along is over, I’m going to do Modern Monday anyway.  When I visited the Quilting Edge blog I fell in love with what Mari does and decided to follow her directions to make a quilt as you go.  Last year I started collecting striped fabrics.

Above, is a close-up.  This quilt as you go process was fun to try, especially creating the individual blocks.

Another close-up.  Attaching the blocks was a snap too.  Can you tell where the blocks were attached together?  As the quilt grew, I did have some difficulty attaching the long rows, especially the last row when the quilt was full size and heavy.  Maybe I'll use a lighter batting next time. 

Here it is on the back of my couch where I’m trying to brighten up this room with the beige walls and beige couch and beige carpet! I think it adds the color I'm looking for!

 And here is the full quilt.  I love how this quilt turned out.  Since I have plenty of striped fabrics left, I thought I’d use them to make some place mats or pillows.  Mari has some really nice tutorials so why don’t you give Modern a try.

SAMPLER BLOCKS AT ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

It’s March 1st.  Spring must be just around the corner…thank goodness!  March also makes me ask if you have your Sampler blocks finished and ready to show at one of the various Sampler classes held this month at the Attic Window Quilt Shop?  I did get mine finished.  However, since I was a bad girl and did not get a picture of the original blocks, I can only hope I used the right fabrics in the right places.  Also, these small blocks are still giving me problems.  Cathy said to me, “Oh, those small ones are easy.”  Right!  One of mine came out barely 6” square.  Why can’t I get it right?  I swear I do what Maggie says:  use a scant quarter inch seam; press, don’t iron.  Well, that’s why I’m taking these classes…to learn.  And I’m having fun doing it.  I hope you are too.  The first Sampler class at the shop is Saturday, at 9:30 a.m.  Check the calendar on the sidebar for other Sampler classes throughout the month.

On Another:  Quilt Matters has a tutorial for a stuffed quilting technique called Trapunto.  I’ve always wanted to try this.
