BEES IN THE ATTIC MEET AT ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

Roxanne was the Queen when Bees In The Attic Bee Hive met today at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  She's not wearing the crown because somehow it got lost after the last meeting.  Can't you tell she's really sad about that?
Above, Roxanne looks over all the blocks we gave her.
This is a close-up of some of those blocks.  Last month she distributed kits with the fabrics she wanted us to use.  I'm eager to see this finished.
Next month Dianne will be queen.  Today she distributed kits and instructions for making blocks for her.  She chose the block "Picnic" from the book 12 Pack Quilts.
This is a close-up of the block we are to make.
We had lots of show-n-tell too.  Above, Peggy shows us this quilt.   You can't see it in the picture, but the quilter, Mary Gee, did a lot of writing on the quilt.
This is a close-up of some of the writing in Peggy's quilt.  Let It Snow!
And this is another picture of Peggy's quilt.  Love the design work Mary did quilting it.
This is a baby quilt that Peggy also made.
Above is a close-up of the center.  So cute!
Peggy also showed us this quilt that she made.  So beautiful!
A close-up.  Check out all that quilting!  Someone else quilted this one for Peggy, but I didn't get her name.
Cathy showed us some of the blocks she had made using her new ruler.
Above, Cathy shows us this block before she squares it up.  Wouldn't it make a lovely table topper just like it is?

HAVE YOU TRIED MAKING FLOWERS?

Well, this didn't turn out as I had hoped.  I love Deborah Louie's Daisy Path quilt.  Since she is in Australia and I couldn't wait for a pattern, I thought, "I can do that."  It is appliique and I love applique.
One thing I thought particularly nice was that I could use my scraps. I swore I was going to use my scraps instead of buying new fabric this year (what a joke).  Applique is one reason I cannot cut all my scraps into various size squares.  One never knows what size scrap will be perfect for that applique.
I show you this picture so you can see the size of my scrap piece.
Anyway, first it looked like this.  Didn't like it.
 So, I made some changes.
This is a closeup.  But no matter how many times I turn it every which way to look at it, it still doesn't look like Deborah's.  Maybe next time I'll use the fusing method and outline the petals in black.  As for this one, I think I'll practice some FM quilting on it and turn it into a pillow.

ON ANOTHER NOTE:
  • I like to use my special rulers more than once, so I'm always on the lookout for a pattern or tutorial that calls for a special ruler I have.  Andie Johnson Sews has a tutorial for a mug rug using that 60 degree ruler.

HAVE YOU MADE A MUG WARMER?

Hello fellow quilters.  I hope you had a great weekend.  I got to have lunch with Stephanie and Maureen from Kalamazoo and that was a treat.  They were on their way north to a retreat.  Feeling energetic and inspired after talking to them, I came home and worked on a quilting project that I'll show you soon.  For now, above is the little mug warmer that I finished yesterday.
This is the other side of the warmer.  I love applique but rarely use the fused method.  On such a small project I thought it appropriate.  Besides, this is what was shown in the book Quilted Covers and Cozies.  I love the black stitching.
Above is the warmer so you can see all three of the little birds.  It was such a fun project.
