It’s no secret. I love appliqué, but felt it necessary to try other ways of making a quilt since I’m always telling my students to do just that. The owner of the Attic Window Quilt Shop keeps telling me she’s going to make a piecer out of me yet. I’m still struggling with that. I’m far from perfect, but some how can manage. Anyway, I thought I’d better try the paper piecing technique that I blogged about recently. I had taken a class at the shop. I had even made a paper pieced block for the Around The World Quilting Bee. With confidence I went to The Sometimes Crafter and got the pattern of the flying geese in a circle. I read and re-read her directions, which are very well done. However, something went wrong along the way. Note that the top middle seam is hanging loose. Some of the material was not caught in the seam. Note the hole at the bottom left square. What happened there I don't know. When I showed my mother my block she said, “Maybe you better stick to appliqué.”

Hope you're having a better day than I am,
Til next time,

I love applique tooo...it is my favorite but I am sorry at needle turn...just do blanket stitch most of the time.
I think you should look at this as a learning experience. Next time you paper piece, you will be more generous with the fabric pieces you use. :) Most of us who have tried paper piecing have made the same mistakes. Keep trying!
I have that same pattern, plan on doing it if the right quilt comes along. As far as your seam hanging loose..I really couldn't tell from the picture...but you just didnt' sew the 2 sections together with enough seam allowance. The hole in the bottom left happened because you didn't leave enough fabric for the section. That happens easily, I have done a few PP and love it...but you can't skimp on the pieces of fabric...better too much than not enough! Don't give up...
it is still beautiful and you have a great eye for selecting fabrics. It looks really nice.
don't be discouraged...keep plugging away at it, someday you'll look back and wonder why you didn't start sooner!
gota love Mom's!!!!
Oh, these things happen at times, Caroll and it is hard to think in reverse - how brave you are to show the world - love your sense of humour and your sense of self-worth - I am sure you have brightened a a lot of folks day!

Funny! But you are too critical of yourself! It looks pretty and the next one won't have a hole.
I like this block- you have inspired me to download it and give it a go, too!
Well, maybe that loose goose was flying just a bit out of formation. Flit happens!
LOL poor poor little widdy biddy block... it sort of looks wonky :) It would be lovely in a purse when repaired :) You will only learn if you keep at it :)
Great first effort :)
