HAVE YOU MADE THE ONE BLOCK WONDER?

I'm still without my laptop where all my Blog info and pictures are located.  However, I did want to tell you that there is a new One Block Wonder on the calendar.  Vickie S. will be teaching you how to make this stunning quilt.  I took some pictures from a previous class and you can see them here.  As I've said before, Vickie is a wonderful teacher and she will help you every step of the way.  You will come away from her class thinking, "I didn't know I could do that!"  The one day class is being held Monday, July 14, from 10-4.  Call the Attic Window Quilt Shop to register and get a supply list.

SHE'S HAVING A MOOSE OF A TIME

I've been unable to post recently and maybe for a few more days as my lap top that held all my pictures and information links has crashed.  Boo Hoo!  I miss posting and was thrilled when Diana sent me this picture that she took recently at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Yvonne B. made this Moose quilt.  Isn't she adorable.  When I wrote and asked Yvonne about it, this is what she wrote back:

I made this for my Dear Friend Barb who lives in Walled Lake, Michigan.  Barb and her husband travel often and while on their travels they fell in Love with The Moose.  When the four of us were traveling together in the UP we stopped at this Quilt Shop and saw a Mama Moose quilt.  We fell in love with the wall hanging, which is 60" long.  We shopped there and picked out all of the Fabric from the Village Fabrics, except for her bow, flower and ruffle which I got at the Attic Window.  I made a few changes in the embellishments and had a good time making this wall hanging.

IS THERE A DOLL IN YOUR FUTURE?

When I stopped in at the Attic Window Quilt Shop last Thursday the Doll Bee was in session.  Naturally I had to take some pictures.  Above is the darling doll that Shirley S. is making.  I may be wrong, but I think call this a Hitty doll.

Barb V. shows us her work in process.  I’m a doll person and go crazy when I see these.

JUNE AND JULY CLASSES:   

• Spiral Lone Star – This is a two-week class taught by Vickie S. The first session is on Saturdays, June 21 and June 28, from 10-2.  Another two-week session is on Thursdays, June 26th and July 10th.  The class is $30.  Check out the sample for this wonderful wall hanging, or table topper at the shop.  Or you can see Vickie’s quilt here. This is an intermediate to advanced class.Irish Chain – Vickie D. will be teaching this two week class on Wednesday, June 25 from 6-9 p.m. and again on July 23 from 6-9.  It is a beginning to intermediate class.  It is a fun and easy basic quilt done with 2 ½” strips. Class fee is $20
• Big Blocks – Vickie D. will be teaching this one week class on Thursday, July 31 from 5-9 p.m.  It is easy to piece this lap size quilt that is 72 ½” square.  Class fee is $15.
• Rectangle Rumba Tablerunner – Vickie D. will be teaching this one week class on Saturday, July 26 from 20-12.  This two color runner is easy to piece and perfect for any table.  The fee is s$10.
• Strip Street Bag – Lee Anne will be teaching this darling bag on Saturday, July 19, from 10-3.  You can make this simple easy strip pieced bag in a day and you can choose from two different size handles. You can see a picture of my Strip Street bag here.  The pattern was designed by a local quilt shop. The Class fee is $25.

THESE ARE PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS

This post has nothing to do with quilting and does not reflect the views of the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Today I have a couple of announcements that are of interest to me and  I’m hoping will be of interest to some of you.

The first announcement I have to tell you about is that my son Derek has a 2005 Jayco 29BHS camper for sale.  This is a MUST SEE. The camper is in excellent condition. The inside looks just the way it did the day it was purchased and brought home from the dealer. My son is the original owner and took very good care of it.

The camper sleeps six comfortably but it has slept nine at times. There is a full head and shower with skylight and vent fan, bunk beds in the rear and a queen bed in the front. Both front and rear can be private with folding doors. There is a nice sink and vanity as well. The living area has a slide out with a folding couch that makes into a bed. The dining table converts down to another bed. The kitchen has a stove, oven, microwave and large refrigerator and separate freezer. YOU CAN MAKE THIS QUILT IN A DAY

Pat A. recently brought this beautiful quilt in to the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Several of us liked it so much that we convinced Chris that she should have a class.  I have a Jelly Roll that I purchased some time ago and didn’t know what to do with it and have now decided this is the project.  I’ll be taking this class, which is on Thursday, July 17, from 10-3.

How about you?  Do you have a Jelly Roll that you picked up with no plans as how to use it?  You can take this class or one of the other many classes that are coming up at the shop.

YOU CAN MAKE A QOV!

Today I’ve been working on a Quilt Of Valor.  I’m using this Lone Starburst for the center and have been making log cabins in red, white and blue to go around this center piece.  This center star is a paper pieced pattern that I originally found on the Six White Horses blog.  It is now available for free on Craftsy.  The pattern for the full quilt came from the Quilts of Valor website.  They have lots of free patterns and instructions about size, where and how to send your quilt, and just about anything else you would want to know about a Quilt of Valor.  Why not do something special this summer and make a quilt for a soldier?

BUY FABRIC, TAKE A CLASS

More new fabric has arrived at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Above is Joyful Blooms by Studio e.  I love the colors in these fabrics. In fact, I was just wondering…wouldn’t these flowers make a beautiful One Block Wonder quilt?  I’m going to ask Vickie about that.  Don’t forget, if you are interested in making a One Block Wonder quilt with Vickie, just call the shop and get on the list.

I noticed that LeeAnne is having another Strip Street Bag class this Saturday.   I made this one above when I took the class and just love it!  There is still room for you in the class.

QUILT, EAT, DANCE

The Happy Scrappers met again last Saturday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Above is the quilt that Adrienne is working on.  Love those colors.  She spread it on the floor so we could audition fabrics for the borders.

When Cathy arrived, Adrienne presented her with a Happy Birthday cupcake!   From the look on Cathy’s face, I think she was surprised that Adrienne remembered.  Adrienne brought delicious cup cakes and wonderful cookies for all of us.  Thank you Adrienne!

Cathy brought these luscious Michigan grown strawberries for everyone.  Michigan berries are so sweet! I don't think any of us needed to go buy lunch! Thank you Cathy!

Cathy also showed us this gorgeous quilt.  She said it is her summer quilt and that she made it from 20 fat quarters. I love these soft cool colors.

This is the back of the quilt.  We couldn’t decide which we liked best because the back is as striking as the front.  We decided it is a reversible quilt.

Diana finished her stunning Lone Star Swirl quilt.  Don’t you just love those colors!

When “Happy” started playing on the radio, we all started dancing.  Above, I caught Chris dancing away!

Lee Anne and Rosa joined in the fun, keeping time with their arms!  I love this quilting group.  What fun!

IT IS A WONDER HOW SHE DOES THIS

I stopped at the Attic Window Quilt Shop today to take pictures of Vickie’s One Block Wonder class and was blown away.  I told all my friends I had too many UFOs to start another project and definitely was not taking this class.  However, before I knew it I was drooling.  The first thing I saw when I walked into the shop was this quilt that Vickie made.  It is really table topper size, but I was stunned, not only by its beauty, but by the fact that she made it last evening after she went home from Happy Scrappers!

I became even more astonished to learn that she made that beautiful quilt from the above fabric!  How did she do that?  Vickie said that the One Block Wonder quilt is made from a single piece of fabric cut in rows. I think you’ll be surprised when I say there is no fussy cutting involved!

And these are three more blocks that came from that fabric.  It is amazing the various blocks you get from a single piece of fabric!  And I repeat:  There is no fussy cutting involved!

You can go here to see the quilt that Vickie made that started it all.  As I have said before, Vickie is an excellent teacher.  She comes prepared with lots of mock ups so you can see the various ways to make the quilt.

She is a hands-on teacher too, helping you every step of the way.  Above others observe as Vickie helps Peggy with her quilt.

This One Block Wonder quilt is a two-day class.  I know there is another class currently on the calendar and Vickie said that if more are interested in taking the class, she'll add another session on the calendar.  Call the shop if you are interested.  You won't be disappointed!

HAPPY SCRAPPERS MEET

The Happy Scrappers met at the Attic Window Quilt Shop Wednesday and a fun time was had by all!  There was even some dancing (again) but all my pictures of the dancers came out blurry.  However I do have lots of pictures I think you will like.  First up is Lee Anne.  She made this beautiful Batik quilt.

This is a close up of one of the blocks. This fabric is stunning!

These blocks are made from the Bali Tiles package by Hoffman Fabrics.  The package contains 10 precuts, each 12” X 43/44” of Hand painted Batik.

Vickie showed us this delightful quilt.

This is a close up of one of the blocks.  I was trying to get a close up of the various light colored fabrics used to make the diagonal across the quilt.  Love those fabrics.  Sorry, I did not get the pattern name.

Remember last month when I told you about the quilt that Rosa was making for her son’s friends who are expecting?  Above she is stitching the saying that is going on the back of the quilt.

And here is Rosa with the appliqué all finished and ready to go on the back of the quilt.  Great job Rosa!

Catherine quilted this adorable quilt.

Catherine also worked on this quilt during the day.  It is quite large and above she has laid it out to see if all the squares looked right.  Looks fantastic to me!

This is just a hint of what is taking place at the Attic Window on Thursday.  Vickie is teaching the One Block Wonder class.  As I have said before, Vickie is the best teacher ever and if you get a chance to take a class from her, you should jump at it.  I know several of us Happy Scrappers cannot attend the class tomorrow but Vickie has agreed to set another date for another class, so if you are interested, watch for that class on an upcoming calendar.
