GET INTERTWINED WITH VICKIE S.

I may have shown this before, but wanted to show it again because I’m sure you will want to register for another fun class with Vickie S.   This is the class sample for the Intertwined Quilt that you can make with Vickie at the Attic Window Quilt Shop on Friday, April 17th from 10-4.
This is another class sample that Vickie made so you can see how it looks in fabrics of a different color.  She does fantastic work!  Don’t forget to call the shop and register for this class.

ON ANOTHER NOTE:

  • I’m so excited.  I just discovered that Occasional Piece has a Circles Sew Along.  By clicking here you can see the latest circle block.  However, if you look at the top left of her blog you will see “Circles-English Paper Piecing.” Click on that and you can see all the circles she has completed so far.  You can still download the patterns too.  I love handwork and plan to make some of these.

DO YOU THINK SHE WILL LIKE THIS?

Not much to show you today.  I'm working on this dish mat for my friend.  When I decided to make a mat for her I thought I would use one of my UFOs.  I had the sample block that was in red and white fabrics.  I think I made it for Happy Scrappers.  Perfect, I thought.  Then it occurred to me that I had better do a color test.  Sadly, I discovered a few of the reds ran, so I had to discard that idea.  I chose only good quality Quilt Shop fabrics for the mat above.  I sure hope none of those reds run.  And, I hope my friend likes the bright colors I have chosen.

COULD YOU MAKE THIS?

Several of the women taking the Bargello class with Vickie S. met at the Attic Window Quilt Shop Friday to continue making this quilt.  I was unable to make it, but Vickie sent me pictures.  Above, Julie B. shows us her beautiful quilt.  I love the colors she has chosen.
Wow! It looks like Rosa got her quilt all finished.  It looks fabulous!  Remember what stage it was in when I posted a picture here? You go girl!
Vickie also sent me this picture of Sandy W. with her One Block Wonder quilt.  I am still amazed at how these women put these little pieces together to create such beauty!

Thank you Vickie for sharing these pictures with us!

DON'T FORGET:
  • UFO is Monday
  • Sampler and Bee is Saturday

THERE'S SOMTHING ABOUT THOSE 30s

The other day when Linda Tanner stopped in at the shop to get border fabric for this charming quilt, I persuaded her to let me take a picture of it.  I love the 30s fabrics and couldn't resist drooling over this quilt.  Lately I have been using brighter fabrics and gone a little modern, but I find myself always going back to the 30s fabrics.  They are so clean and gentle looking.  Linda said this pattern is called Pride and Joy.  She calls it Clara's quilt as it is for her seven-year-old granddaughter.

Thanks Linda for sharing with us!  I'm sure you will find the perfect fabric to compliment this quilt as the Attic Window Quilt Shop has quite a few bolts to choose from.

MODERN AND A LITTLE BIT MORE

The Mod Squad (Modern Bee) met Wednesday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Above, Marti shows us her block for the March BOM.
Marti also worked on her Quilt As You Go block.  She has several blocks completed and I can't wait to see them all together.
Peggy shows us her completed March block.  This was a fun block to make.
This is my block for the March BOM.
Since I didn't read the directions carefully, I had enough HST left over to make another block.  Heck with that.  I decided to play a little and came up with this block.  I think it will work.
We were happy to have Leslie Bastian join us today.  She worked on making the January Sampler block.  She just joined that group and needed to catch up. Hope she comes back to sew with us.
Rosa joined us and worked on her Bargello quilt.  See all the strips on the right?  The entire board looked like that until Rosa started placing the strips as indicated on the tabs at the top.
This is a close up of the instruction tabs at the top of each strip.  You follow the number and the arrow when placing the strips side by side.
Rosa showed me how she would place a strip next to the previous one and then move it in the way the arrow indicates.  Don't pay attention to the numbers in the above picture because Rosa was just using it to show me what she should do.  Obviously, #13 should be placed next to #12.  Vickie S. teaches this class and I admire her teaching skills.  She provided the boards and all the cutting and placement information (as seen on the tabs in previous picture) so her students could easily make this quilt.
Above, Judi admires Rosa's work.  Judi is thinking about taking Vickie's class too.  Today Judi worked on various projects.
This is a paper piecing blade that Diana worked on today.  I can't wait to show you this star burst quilt that she is making. It was a fun and productive day.  Hope you will join us next month.

WANT TO SEE SOMETHING STUNNING?

The Applique Bee met today at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Above, Chris P. shows us this stunning quilt.  Chris said that her sister Lillian made this quilt for her as a gift.  What a thoughtful and talented sister!
This is a close-up of the center block.  It is awesome!
Chris also showed us this quilt that she recently finished.  Chris said that the pattern is from Bonnie Hunter’s Mystery quilt.  Chris said she adjusted it slightly to meet her needs.  This quilt is beautiful!
Most of us just sat around talking and working on our various projects.  This is my block nine of the Fresh Picked Posies quilt by Piece o’ Cake Designs.

THE REST (ALMOST) OF THE STORY

Since the making of this Bargello quilt was taking longer than one class session, Vickie and the students decided to come back the next day and work some more on their quilt.  Above, Rosa shows us all her strata stitched and ready to be cut into the various sizes.
Lee Anne shows us her strata.  Note the paper strips along the top of her piece.  I told you about these strips yesterday.  They help Lee Anne know where to cut her strips.
Nancy has her strips cut and is now making sure they are placed correctly before she begins to show the strips together.

I think they will again be working on this quilt later this week.  I'll try to get pictures as I know these quilts are going to be stunning!

A CLASS AND ANOTHER STORY

I stopped in at the shop Friday to get some pictures of Vickie’s Bargello class.  Above,Vicki S. shows me the quilt that she is using to demonstrate the process for making this quilt.
As I have said before, Vickie is a wonderful teacher.  She is detailed and explains on her board what to do, step-by-step.  Note the strips of paper above.  Vickie distributed these to help everyone understand and know where they should cut their strata.
When you attend one of Vickie’s classes, you not only get wonderful instructions, but tips as well.  Do you know what this metal bar on the ironing board is used for?  You’ll have to take a class from Vickie to find out.
When I arrived, the women were busy sewing their strata.  Above, Julie B. checks her seams.
Rosa is busy ironing her seams.  I have a little story to tell  you about Rosa.

Picture this:  I have just parked my car at the grocery store.  The lot is full and I parked a distance away from the main entrance.  I needed to get steps on my Fit Bit anyway.  The walk was slightly up hill and I found myself huffing and puffing.  When I came to the main drive in front of the store, I dashed across the road because a car was coming.  Once at the entrance my phone rang.  I pulled it out of my pocket and headed into the store, breathing rather heavily.  I didn't check to see who was calling, since my daughter calls me every day at about that time.  I breathed in and out and said a breathy "Hello,"  Silence.  Again, still panting, I said, "Hello."   The person on the other end of the line said, "Are you having sex?"

It was Rosa who had called to see when I was coming to the shop!  I almost fell over laughing right there in the vegetable isle. That Rosa, you gotta love her!
Barb was busy sewing at her machine.
Lee Anne does some ironing on her strata.
Nancy is sewing on one of her many strips.
Jill is busy ironing her strata.
This is the quilt that Vickie made and had at the shop.  Isn't it stunning!

Stop by tomorrow and I'll show you pictures of the progress made on day two of this workshop.

YOU CAN QUILT THIS TABLE RUNNER

I just have one thing to show you today.  I made this table runner.  The pattern is from the book Make It Take It and designed by Krista Hennebury. You can get the book at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  And, of course, you can get all these beautiful fabrics there. They are Flirt by Windham Fabrics.
What I really wanted to show you is how I quilted it.  I got the idea from the book.
This is another view.  In the book, Krista Withers, who quilted the table runner in the book, shows you how to do these ghost shapes, quilting shapes that echo the piecing in the quilt top. What a great idea and it was easy to do.  Go on, give it a try! You won't be disappointed.

DON’T FORGET:
  • Friday is Vickie’s Bargello class.  I think the pattern is Entwined.
  • Saturday is Lee Anne’s Tuesday Traveler bag class.

  • Sew Me Blog has a tutorial for a Very Blessed Like Me block.  Great way to use your scraps.

WHEN SCRAPPERS PLAY WITH SCRAPS

Jill joined us at Happy Scrappers this past weekend and she worked on this quilt.  It is stunning.  She made this for someone (sorry I can't remember if it was one of her children or a friend) who is going to Western Michigan University.
She put this fleece on the back.  This is going to be loved and warmed by someone in Michigan!
Janalee shows us the star block that she made.
And I just played with scraps.  What fun!

  • Speaking of scraps, Rebecca Mae Designs has a tutorial for a beautiful scrappy block.  You'll love it.

OH, THE THINGS THAT I SEE

While recently at the shop, I saw these new fabrics.  Above is Kimmy’s Sonata by Exclusively Quilters.
And this is Sly As A Fox, also by Exclusively Quilters.
I also got to see this darling quilt by Tammy Huff.  The pattern is Snow Globes and will be in the shop in April.
This is a close-up of one of the blocks.  Tammy does beautiful work.
I also saw this cute little table topper that Sue C. made as a sample for the shop.  The pattern is Picket Fences and is available at the shop.

NEW CLASSES AT THE ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

You won't want to miss taking one or both of these two new classes at the Attic Window Quilt Shop this week.  Above is the Tuesday Traveler Bag that Lee Anne is teaching on Saturday.  It is so cute.  It has two zippers, a front pocket, and lots of inside pockets.  You will love this one!
Above is Vickie S. with the Bargello quilt that she will be teaching you to make on Friday at the shop.  The picture doesn't do it justice.  It is stunning.

Be sure to call the shop to register for these classes.  And be sure to check the calendar on the sidebar for all the other fun events taking place at the shop this week.

HAPPY SCRAPPERS SHOW-N-TELL

Happy Scrappers met Wednesday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop and they had lots of show-n-tell.  Above is Cathy’s Freedom Rings quilt.  It was a BMO a couple of years ago at the shop.
Paula showed us this darling row quilt.  She picked up the pattern during her recent stay in Florida.
Above is Mary’s Strip Twist quilt.  She said she made it from her scraps.  What a great idea! The pattern is available at the shop.
In February, Jane took my QAYG class.  Above is her finished quilt.  Didn’t she do a fantastic job!
I have to show you this.  Above is a picture of Jane’s new sewing machine.  It is so small and sew cute!  Someone asked her if it was a child’s toy.  Jane said it sews just like her other machines and (if I remember correctly) said it only weighs 8 lbs.  Adorable!
It even has a drawer for tools.
Marti showed us the Project Linus Quilt that she was working on during the day.  Isn’t it cute!
Nancy shows us her finished quilt that was from the Shop Swap a few months ago.
Cathy, on left, gave us a demo on how to make her tea leaf (or cathedral window) block.
Above is the block I made.  Cathy showed us how to make this using a quick and easy method. It is all sewn on the machine (no hand sewing).  You may remember that Cathy used these blocks along the left edge of her place mats.

Thank you Cathy for showing us how to do this!  I’m going to make more!

DON’T FORGET:  Happy Scrappers meets again on Saturday.

ON ANOTHER NOTE:  Did you know that Nancy Zieman has a BOM.  You can find the January block here
