MOD SQUAD MEETS AT THE ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

The Mod Squad meet Wednesday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  I have to show you this picture of Rosa.  Can you guess why?
Did you look at the size of the coffee cup she has in her arms?  Yikes!  I wonder if drinking all that coffee is what keeps her (and for some reason us) giggling all day while we quilt.  We sure do have lots of fun.  My coffee cup on the left looks kind of puny.  I was thinking of getting a bigger cup, but frankly, my sides all ready hurt at the end of the day from laughing so much, so I think I'll just stay with my small one.
So, down to business.  Today Diana agreed to teach us how to make her modern paper pieced block. Diana is an excellent teacher and I can see why she is so in demand at the shop.  Her instructions are clear, and she makes sure we have all the necessary items to make our project.  And she is patient!  Most of us had a little difficulty with paper piecing and I think it is safe to say that we all appreciated her patience with us.
Above is the block that Diana drafted for us.  She calls it Wonky Flying Geese.  We could make it in the 12" block on the right, or make four of the smaller blocks to achieve a 12" block.
Diana has a great method of teaching paper piecing.  This method eliminates all that waste.  Who wants to waste fabric?
Cathy chose to make the larger block.  She was the first one finished.  Looks great!
Cathy also had her most recent project to show us.  The pattern is Spiraled Underground and you can see the tutorial at A Quilter's Table.  I want to make this!
Adrienne was next to have her block finished .  She did not want to do paper piecing, but we talked her into it.  She did a great job!
This block is mine.  Looks kind of bleak to me, but maybe when it goes into the quilt it will look batter.
Rosa is the only one who chose to make the smaller block.  She said she will use a different background in each of next three blocks.  I can't wait to see how this turns out.  I was thinking, wouldn't a small block like this make a great hot pad or mug rug?

We all had lots of fun and learned a lot too.  A special thank you to Diana for being such a great teacher for us.

DON’T FORGET:
  • Stitch-In, Friday and Saturday, August 28 & 29
  • UFO Day, Monday, August 31
ON ANOTHER NOTE:
  • Red Pepper Quilts has a tutorial for a quilt block jumble.  This is a great way to use your scraps.
