A LITTLE OF THIS AND THAT

Hello Quilters!  Have you heard that you can still make purchases at the Attic Window Quilt Shop?  As you know the shop is closed due to the pandemic but you can still place an order.  Chris said that you can do curbside pickup or she will ship to you.  Just call her at the shop or email her at BrownAttic@aol.com.

What have you been doing?  I saw a tutorial on Freemotion By The River  for a Morning Glory block.  I had to try it (above picture).  I love flowers and this looked like a good way to use my scraps.  Now I'm trying to decide if I should make these three into a table runner or continue making flowers and make a quilt.
I also finished this washing machine topper for my son's cottage.
This is a closeup of the fabrics.  I love these bright colors.
And I've been making masks for my grandchildren.

Made some for the Michigan State fans.
And made some for those who went to University of Michigan.

Next week I hope to start quilting some of those UFOs that have been stuffed in the corner.  What have you been doing?

Remember!  Support your local quilt shop!  We want to go to the Attic Window Quilt Shop and sew with our friends once this "stay at home thing is over!!!  I miss everyone!

GRANDMOTHER'S FLOWER GARDEN - HELP!

Recently Sue of The House that Love Built had a post about her progress on her Grandmother’s Flower Garden Quilt.  I commented that I was working on one too, and it was currently in my UFO pile.  She mentioned that she would like to see it, and I told her I would post about it.  These blocks above are just a few of those I have finished.  I have 17 blocks completed (I was going to say "so far" but I think I'm done making blocks).

I don’t know what size Sue’s blocks are, but my blocks are made up of 2 ½-inch hexagons which make a 13-inch block.  I started this quilt years ago, when I first started quilting.  I had never done English Paper Piecing before and had no idea what I was doing.  Now I wish I had made all the centers the same color.  However, I am not taking these apart to make new centers.  We’ll just deal with what I have.
The challenge for me is putting them together. I had no instructions and just started making a white "path." However, I soon realized I needed to do some planning as not each hexagon will require a “path” attached to it. I think that was when I gave up and put this in my UFO pile. I’m not sure I like the white path either. I really don’t know what to do with these blocks and would be grateful for any suggestions. Maybe just appliqué them to a strip of fabric and make a table runner, or place mats. Any ideas?

If you like GrandMother’s Flower Garden Quilts, you might also like to look at the one that Rhonda has on Stash Manicure today.

Jane has a wonderful tutorial at Stash Manicure on what else you can do with that Dresden Plate ruler. I really like this block and can’t wait to give it a try.

FLOWERS FOR MOTHER'S DAY

Happy Mother’s Day everyone! I hope you’re having a great day. My kids will be here later this afternoon so I thought I’d show you my latest finish before they arrive. As you know, I love flowers, appliqué, and 30’s fabrics. When I saw the book “Flower Festival” by Kim Schaefer, I had to have it.

Some of you may have noticed that I’ve been making my blocks for the Around the World Quilting Bee from this book.

Don’t look too closely. My quilting on it leaves a lot to be desired as I was trying some new things, but the quilt itself is one of my favorites. The 30s fabrics are so fresh and clean looking. I think something subconscious might be going on here, as these fabrics remind me of my childhood.
.
Don’t forget to take a look at the calendar for the upcoming classes at the Attic Window this week. You don’t want to miss Chris’s Mystery Block or Carolyn E’s Quick Trio Table Runner. Lee Ann’s Chubby Charmer tote and Sue’s Journal and Fabric Sampler classes are on Wednesday and Vickie has her All Shook Up class Saturday.
.
Now, for something different. I hate waste. I love gathering all my scraps and “making fabric,” as shown here and here. I think this gives your quilt so much depth. Now Heather Reed of Holland Michigan has another way to make use of all those little scrap pieces. She has a great tutorial for making Confetti Fabric on her blog. I saw the finished product at the last Fiber Arts meeting and it is way too cool. I can’t wait to get started on a project of my own. Check it out here.
♥
Until next time,
Caroll
