BARB'S NEW TWILLING BOOK IS ON SALE NOW

Barb David has been teaching Twilling for a number of years at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Over the years people have urged her to put together a book with instructions and patterns for using the twilling stitch.  Finally, Barb has had the book published and it is now up for sale on her new website. The book contains twelve full-sized patterns and instructions for making the twilling stitch.  Each pattern has a picture that shows how it is stitched.  There are also colored photos of completed quilts her students have done over the years.  This is a must have book.  Go over to Barb’s new website and check it out here.  You’ll be glad you did!

The book has instructions for the beautiful snowflake quilt that I blogged about hereThe above picture is of one of the blocks that Barb’s Twilling Club will be working on this year.  You can see another example of her work at the bottom of this blog site.  I find twilling to be relaxing and great for carry-it-with-you handwork.  You will be glad you learned this stitch. Stop over and tell Barb hi and welcome her to blog world (and buy her book).

HAVE YOU TRIED TWILLING?

Above is a picture of Barb’s latest finished Twilling project.  I love this quilt!  I never would have been brave enough to use white thread on a blue background. My stitches leave a lot to be desired and show every imperfection.  Barb doesn’t have to be concerned about that.  Her stitches are awesome.  If you haven’t learned how to do Twilling yet, you will be thrilled, as I was, to learn that Barb's how-to book is nearly complete and ready for publication.

This is a close up of one of the blocks.  I can’t wait to see Barb’s book and get started on one of her many projects.  I’ll keep you posted as to the publication date!

It’s almost here:  Thursday, Friday, Saturday, SUNDAY!   Don’t make any other plans because you won’t want to miss the shop’s biggest sale of the year.  On January 1, 2012, the Attic Window Quilt Shop will be having a huge sale from 12-4 p.m.  Chris says that some things will be as much as 75% off!  Don’t forget!

PLEASE NOTE:  The Attic Window Newsletter is now available.  You can read it and/or download it onto your computer by clicking on the lady with the hat on the sidebar.  In it you will find information on clubs, Bees, classes, and upcoming events.  There is one minor change that needs to be noted.  Rose Of Sharon pickup will not begin until March.  Be sure and check it out.

If you liked the previous post about the Lil’ Twister tool, you’ll find this link interesting.  Happy Quilting has a tutorial for making a diagonal quilt with the Twister tool.  Check it out!

TWILLING AND REDWORK SAMPLES

Last week I took a picture of the Twilling project that Barb David made for next year’s Twilling club.  However, the light wasn’t right and you couldn’t really see the Twilling, so I’ll get another picture the next time I visit the shop.  I can show you this Twilling pillow that Barb made.  It is also at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Wouldn’t this look perfect in your home?
This is the project for next year’s Redwork Club.  I love these unique Nutcrackers. Barb said she had them made especially for the Club, so you’ll have to sign up for the club if you want these darling patterns.
This is a close up of one of the blocks.  Be sure and look for dates and times in the upcoming newsletter.  Or, stop in at the Attic Window and sign up for the club.
This is another project by Barb.  She does such beautiful work.  This Little Boy Blue is from the book Work and Play by Leisure Arts .   The designs are by Dolores Storm of Lakadaisies.  I love that Barb used the blue thread for this wallhanging.
This is a close up of one of the blocks.  Barb hand quilted the quilt too.  Stop in at the shop and pick up the pattern and get started on this stunning project now.

If you like dolls like I do or if you have a small child who loves dolls, you’ll want to get one of these darling free patterns from Lille Mae’s Crafts and get busy sewing.  There are even instructions on how to make your pattern child safe.  Start now and you can make lots of these cuties for Christmas presents.  These are presents that will be loved forever.

PURSES AND TWILLING

Cindy teaches bag making at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. She has so many samples that she decided to get rid of a few. Stop in at the shop and take a look. You may find one or two that you want to purchase. Look for Cindy’s upcoming bag classes on the calendar on the sidebar.

Cindy’s mother Barb David teaches twilling at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. This year she is teaching how to make larger twilling blocks, many with hearts in the design. This can also be a quilt-as-you-go. Twilling Club meets the second Thursday of the month or third Thursday of the month. Don't you just love the above sample!

This is another sample. Barb does wonderful work and we’re hoping she will get this technique into a book soon.

When cleaning and reorganizing my sewing room I found this twilling block that I made when taking Barb’s class a couple years ago. My stitches are not as fine as hers, but twilling is a fun thing to do. I’ll soon have a wedding quilt of all twilling blocks finished. (Of course, my granddaughter was married over a year ago, but better late than never, right!)

Quilting on Turtle Hill has a great tutorial for making whirlgig blocks with two charm packs.

I love to dabble and try new techniques. I’ve never done any fabric dying before, but when I saw this tutorial I thought maybe I’d give it a try. Take a look at The Matchbook. It shows you how to make your own batik with flour paste.

Until next time,
Caroll

Dolls, Purses & Twilling

This is Julie’s sample for Gail Wilson’s Pincushion Doll class that will be held May 7 & 21 at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. The doll is styled after 1800's paper dolls (the underwear look). She has an embroidered face, emery strawberry, and a needle case attached to her dress. She also has an apron appliquéd to her front that holds scissors or other gadgets. She can stand alone or be attached to a wooden base with spool holders. You won't want to miss out on this fun class. Call the shop and register now.

This Messenger Bag is a smaller version of the traditional size bag. A great starter for those of us who are not into construction (the editor only does flat). Should be a fun class and with all the new vibrant fabrics that are in the shop you are sure to come out with a beautiful bag. Cindy's class starts May 6th.

Kate Veenstra has taken Twilling to a new level. This is what she was working on at the Knotty Girls Stitching Bee Wednesday night. Usually you see Twilling in white on white. Don’t you just love her clever use of colors?

This is a close up of her work. Great job Kate.
Ever lost your keys, your scissors, your whatever. Don’t Look Now has a tutorial for a key ring lanyard that will solve all your problems. It would make a nice Mother’s Day gift too.
Until Next Time: Happy Quilting.
