I have wanted to make this quilt since I first saw it on
Ahh…Quilting over a year ago. At that time I asked Cynthia about a pattern but she said she had created the quilt herself on the computer and since it is quite large, didn’t have a pattern that she could share and didn’t know how to write a pattern so everyone would understand.
Then recently I noticed on her blog that she had gone into the pattern business, and that her
Radiant Orchid Quilt had won second place in a quilt challenge. I love what Cynthia does and was happy to hear that she has decided to go into the pattern design business.
However, I noticed that the watermelon quilt was not included in those patterns she wrote about. So I wrote and told her that I loved her patterns but would really like to see a pattern for the watermelon quilt. Cynthia wrote back that she was creating that pattern and asked if I’d like to be a pattern tester for her. Naturally, I jumped at the chance.
And this is what I made! I loved this pattern and am anxious to get more of Cynthia’s patterns. She is very thorough, as attested to the 21 pages of directions. She didn’t leave me guessing, not once. I think the most difficult part for me was choosing the fabrics for the melon. My experience with fusing is minimal, and I was concerned about this method of appliqué. However, after following Cynthia’s easy to follow step-by-step instructions, I was one happy lady. I love how this quilt looks and I think it was the best way to make this quilt.

here. You will note the beautiful quilting on each one. Above, I quilted my table topper heavily, but I thought that would be best to keep the cloth from blowing away in the wind as I plan to use it on my deck, and at the cottage by the lake.
Cynthia, I can’t thank you enough for this wonderful opportunity. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful designs.
