Do you ever have days when nothing goes as planned? That was the kind of day I've had. I was unable, for various reasons, to start working on my intended project, so I decided to make a dish mat like the one above. My friend Misti sent me a picture of this one and….
And this one. She said they were easy to make. I thought it was a clever idea and decided to give it a try.
Misti said that the pattern didn’t call for batting but she felt the mat needed it, so I sandwiched batting between the terrycloth backing and the front pieced section. I decided to use the stitch and flip method attaching leftover strips from my pink string quilt to the batting.
I wish I had paid attention to what Misti said. She finished her mat with the envelope style. I forgot that she had said that and did straight line quilting and then HAD to add binding. Gads, when will I learn to pay attention?
Anyway, here it is on my counter. This is just to show you, but I think I need to wash it first before I really use it. I really like how Misti’s mats turned out and will try that method next time. I’m not sure I like this one I made all that much, but I guess it beats a towel on the counter.

It is pretty and functional, even if you didn't follow directions.
Yes, I have made a dish mat. I love using it and I've been wanting to make another...thanks for reminding me (not that I'll remember any better tho). I made mine just like a mini quilt...all cotton fabrics, no terry cloth backing. I love your bright pinks mat. It realy brightens up that dish doing chore!
That would brighten up any kitchen!
