I wanted to show you this today because I’ve been asking myself what makes a quilt modern? Ask ten different people and I bet you will get ten different answers. Is it solid colors? Is it negative space? Is it the straight line quilting? I hope to explore this question at the next meeting of the Mod Squad at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. Come and investigate Modern Quilting with us when we meet on Wednesday, January 28th, 2015. Let’s learn together and see where the road takes us!
We will also be having a BOM to help us step out of our box and learn how to build “modern” blocks.
Mary Lou Weidman once said during a class that I attended, that she believed that people had so many UFOs because they got bored making the same blocks over and over. Trust me, you won’t be making the same block twice throughout the year. And I bet you won't be bored!
SHOP NEWS:
- A new Seasonal Sampler is planned. NOTICE: I need to clarify some things because I was confused. The new Sampler starts in January. It is the same as last year in that you will use the tool to make a block each month and have a large quilt at the end of the year. The reason you are to sign up for a season is because that will be your color choice!!! If you signed up for winter, the fabrics in your kits will be in winter fabrics. You will receive autumn fabrics if you signed up for the autumn season, and etc. Call the shop if I’ve confused you more.
- A new Applique BOM is planned, as is a Modern BOM.
- There will also be a Make It and Take It project planned each month.
- Mark your calendar now for the Heart of Winter Tour on February 7th. The bus will take you to four different shops. Lunch and dinner are included.
- New classes are also planned. Please check your supply list before coming to class and don't forget your rulers, cutters, mats, etc.
- New Year's Day SALE: There will be a sale on New Year’s Day from 12 noon to 4 p.m
- Clover and Violet have a tutorial for a last minute tea mat with inside pocket.

Yes. I consider the circle quilt modern. It is also bright and colorful. I have a hard time describing a modern quilt.
Yes. Simple shapes, negative space. Though you know I don't care for labelling something modern or otherwise.
I just know what I like. I like the circle quilt. Many people would probably describe it as modern.
