PROMISE YOU WON'T LAUGH

The Attic Window Quilt Shop has a monthly Sampler program.  I enjoy getting together with this group and sharing our blocks and talking about techniques and how to improve on making a block.  Originally I joined in the hopes of improving my piecing skills.  Above is a picture of what this month’s block should look like.

Lynn had suggested that my problem might be in my pressing.  She told me what to do and I took care in pressing these half square triangles and cutting them to exact squares.

This is how my block turned out.  I swear to you I was not drinking.  I don’t know what happened.  I must not be able to read directions…or maybe “follow” directions.  Anyway, this is my block and I’m sticking to it.
This is the bonus block for this month.  Can you now understand why I love applique?

Can you believe it’s time to think about Valentine’s Day?  Quilt Inspiration has lots of free heart and valentines patterns.  Better get started now.

DO YOU HAVE THESE PROBLEMS?

I didn’t do much in the way of quilting this weekend because of our beautiful weather.  I had to get outside and work in the yard.  The temperature is supposed to drop tonight so I couldn’t resist taking advantage and be in the warm sun.  However, I did manage to make a quilt block, which is the first block of the Sampler series at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Above is a good example of why I do not do much piecing.
I did some un-stitching or  “frogging” (as Linda calls it) and re-stitched the rows together.  However, I still had this problem and had to “frog” again.

Finally, I came up with this block.  It is far from perfect, but it doesn’t look too bad.  Besides, I’m not frogging on this thing again!  I do like the appliqué beside it.  It is the free block for this month.  No “frogging” there!

Have you checked out all the wonderful classes coming up at the Attic Window this week?  Carolyn E. will be teaching you how to make a Keepsake Quilt.  Vickie has an interesting class, Take 5 Takes A Walk.  You choose five coordinating fabrics and in four hours you will have a lap quilt.  Glenys has a felt wool wall hanging that she wants to share with you.  I love the looks of wool.  I’ll try to get a picture for you.

Check out Quilt Dad’s Block-a-palooza.  It is a quilt-along that jumps from blog to blog, featuring two original blocks per week.   You will find the links to participating bloggers and their tutorials here

NEW SAMPLER SERIES TO START

The new 2011 Sampler series starts this Saturday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  In a previous post I told you about the tool that is being used for this project.  I blogged about it here.  Above is a picture of the first pieced block that you will make.  I can’t wait to see what the applique block will look like.  As a refresher: participants have the opportunity to make a pieced or an applique block.  Bet you can’t guess which one I chose.  If you haven’t signed up for this series yet, you can do so by calling the shop and registering for one of their many sessions being offered.

The second annual Spring Cleaning SALE at the Attic Window Quilt Shop will be this coming weekend, Friday & Saturday, April 1 & 2.  You won’t want to miss it.  Chris always has the best sales.

When I first learned about a new way to make half-square triangles, my biggest concern was how to determine size.  Whip Up is a blog with the answer.   While there, go to the Tutorials and look at the other projects they have to offer.  In addition, in the middle of the blog there is “categories” selection where you can choose what you want to look at.  There are a lot of quilting projects listed.  Check out this fun site.
