FREE CHEAT SHEET

This is not quilting related but you might find it helpful.  The other night when my five-year-old great grandson came for dinner with his grandmother, he overheard some talk at the dinner table.
My daughter and I were discussing our fun playing Words With Friends with Carter’s father. 

“He says I cheat,” my daughter said.  “But I don’t cheat.  I never look in the dictionary.  I do have a list of words.  I’ll write on this list when I see a word I want to remember.”

“That’s a good idea,” I said.  “I’ll have to make a cheat sheet like that.”

At that point Carter entered the conversation and we were off and running about Spider Man, Robin, and several other power men that I didn’t recognize.

After dinner while my daughter and I were cleaning the kitchen, Carter was busy with his paper and crayons.  Soon he came running into this kitchen and said, “Here Nana.  I made you a cheat sheet of words so you can play with my dad.”

I thought this was adorable and I wanted to share with you in case you need it to play your next game of Words With Friends.

YOU CAN MAKE THIS SECRET MONSTER

Some time ago I came across a blog that I had to link to because I wanted you to see something special at Buttons and Paint.  There you could see a Storage Monster.  This is a little secret storage unit that you can make for your child to store his/her secret stuff.  I fell in love with this cute monster and had to make one for my great grandchild.

So I searched for an empty container and finally selected an empty plastic container that formerly held Citrucel.  I chose this over an oatmeal box because I thought it would be sturdier.  (He is four years old and a boy...need I say more!)

Then I went on a search for this fabric that looked all loopy and hairy and cute like the one that Buttons and Paint used.  I found a car wash mitt that fit perfectly onto the plastic container.  I then sewed on felt ears and tongue and added some orange yarn for the hair.

I found some wiggly eyes which were a bear to attach, but I did it.  Then I unscrewed the lid and placed candy, pennies, and a small truck inside the “secret hiding place.”   I screwed the lid back on and when I saw my great grandson last week, I shook the container a bit when I gave it to him.   He was thrilled.  I’m not sure the four-year-old quite understood the concept of secret, but he sure had fun with it.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

I had to show you this.  It is a card from my four-year-old great grandson.  Isn't it precious!!  He made this card for me and wrote the message all by himself.  And, no, the camera did not turn it around.  You are seeing what I see.  Can you read it?  It says (at the top right, in green) "From Carter to Nana I love You."  And in yellow at the bottom left it says, "This is your house."  I will cherish this card forever. 

This is the front of the card.  It says, "Happy Mother's Day."  Can you tell?   I love this kid!  ;o)

YOU CAN MAKE THIS GIFT FROM CARTER

I have to show you this.  It is from a very special great grandson.  Carter, who is 3 years old, (and his mother, Kim) made this darling bag for me.  I will cherish this precious butterfly bag forever.

This is a close up.  Did you notice his hand prints make up the upper part of the butterfly wings?

And prints of his cute little feet make up the bottom part of the wings.  Note the dots on each toe that make it look more like a butterfly!  Kim, my wonderful granddaughter, came up with the design herself.  She was a little upset because Carter decided to smudge out some of the dots around the butterfly’s head, but to me that makes it uniquely from Carter.  I love it and wanted to share it with you.  You could do something like this with your child or grandchild and have a wonderful Christmas gift.
