HAVE YOU ATTENDED A SHOP SWAP?

A Shop Swap was held Sunday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  What is a Shop Swap?  No, it is not like a swap meet.  A Shop Swap is when people from the Attic Window Quilt Shop and from Quilted Memories in Montague get together and sew.  Above is a sample of the quilt that participants would make.

Each participant received a kit with fabrics of their choice.  These kits were included in the registration to participate in the Shop Swap.  The previous Sunday all the women met at Quilted Memories and received their fabric kits and began to sew.

This is another version of the same quilt.  I think Jill of Quilted Memories referred to this as the Christmas quilt.  The pattern is Square Knots by A Quilter's Dream.

There was plenty of room for the twenty participants to sew and get around the shop.

As you can see from the above pictures there was lots going on.  Above, Jill (left) discusses the quilt with some participants.

I didn't get a picture of Barb's block but I did ask her to let me take a picture of the jacket that she made.  She said she got the pattern from the Attic Window and made it during a class there.  She raved about how easy the pattern is to make and how well it fits.

This beautiful lady came from Quilted Memories and showed me her block.  I'm so sorry I didn't get her name and when I realized it and called the shop, everyone was gone.  So sorry as I really like to put names to pictures.

Who is behind the hands?  I told Mary she couldn't hide from us and I was going to call her "see no evil."  That only made her laugh.

Participants received this pattern from Jill at Quilted Memories.  You can get the pattern from her shop.  What a great mug rug for this time of year.

Around this time each year the Attic Window Quilt Shop and Quilted Memories have a Shop Swap.  Judging from things that were said today and the smiles on everyone's face, a good time was had by all.  Mark your calendar now and watch for the Shop Swap notice next fall.  You won't want to miss this fun event.

HAVE YOU HEARD OF THE SHOP SWAP?

Don’t you just love this quilt?  I do.  It was made during the Shop Swap.  Are you wondering about the Shop Swap?  What is it?  Where is it?  When is it? 

Quilted Memories in Montague, Michigan and the Attic Window Quilt Shop have teamed up to do a Shop Swap.  This is how it works.  You register at one of participating shops.  At that time you will get instructions and a kit.  The Swap begins on Sunday, Oct. 19, at which time, all participants will go to the Attic Window Quilt Shop and spend the day sewing on the project in your kit.  The following Sunday, October 26, you go to the Quilted Memories shop and finish your project.  Lunch will be served each Sunday (included in price).  Above is the beautiful quilt that Jill made during last year’s Shop Swap.  Now that I have your interest, call the shop to register and get more details.  Space is limited.

DON’T FORGET:

• To mark your calendar for the West Michigan Quilters’ Guild Quilts on the Grand.  The date is October 3 – 5 at the DeltaPlex Arena.
• On Thursday, October 9th at 10:00 A.M., Vickie will be holding a finishing class for her spiral lone star for anyone who has previously taken the class with her and who needs some extra help with the finishing steps.

WHAT THEY MADE AT THE SHOP SWAP

The final days of the Shop Swap were this weekend.  Above is the sample of the beautiful quilt that each participant made.  The women started out their journey either at Quilted Memories in Montague or at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  At the shop where they began their project, they received a project kit with all the fabrics precut.  They enjoyed lunch and a day of sewing.  The next time they went to the other shop where they received the finishing kit, lunch and sewed away.  I love the quilt above.  

Here the group enjoys the company of each other while they get their quilts completed.  I wish I could have joined them as the colors in this quilt are to die for!  

Mary is working diligently.  I thought I had a picture of it, but I guess not, but beside Mary, you can see that Rosie has all her little precut pieces placed in order.  I really should have participated in this.  All the work was done.  

Here Mary is showing us the center of the quilt that she made the previous day at the other shop.  Here at the Attic Window she is working on the sashings and borders.  

Stop over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict and check out  Sarah’s blog.  I admire Sue Sarah and all the good work that she does.  I recently learned that she works with a group of ladies at her church.  They make quilts for people undergoing difficult times in their lives (usually medical).  She said they started out working out of her stash, and as she began posting the quilts on her blog, fellow bloggers e-mailed her to ask if she could use their orphan blocks, unwanted fabric, UFOs or sometimes even completed quilts!  She said that they have had hundreds of yards of fabric and hundreds of blocks donated, which they use to make the quilts that are given away.  Since January 2010, they have distributed 110 quilts and have about a dozen more in progress.  She posts pictures of them on her blog.  The surprise to me was that this group started with about ten women who had never made a quilt before!  If you have donations, contact Sue  Sarah through her blog.  Sue  Sarah also has a Whoop Whoop day every Friday where people post links to their WIPs or Finishes.  Be sure and check it out too!

Of course, I have to mention that the Attic Window Quilt Shop has a couple of groups who make quilts for charity.  Quilts For Kids donate their quilts to the kids with cancer.  Quilts For Wheels makes quilts for people in wheelchairs and donates them to various organizations such as the Veteran’s Administration, hospital, etc.  Both groups will gladly accept your donations.  Just call the shop for details.

Quilt Talk is having a give-away that you should check out.  Maybe you’ll be the lucky person.

BABY CARDINAL & SHOP SWAP

Isn’t this little guy precious!  Mama and PaPa Cardinal built a nest in the Bittersweet vine that climbs up the trellis on my front porch.  They are the proud parents of two babies.  I kept a close eye on them and got this shot the very first day that they left the nest.  I was so excited I had to show it to you.  They have flown the coop and I haven’t seen them since.

Have you signed up for the Shop Swap?  The Attic Window Quilt Shop is swapping with Quilted Memories in Montague.  This is how it works:  You register at one of the shops to participate.  The Swap is on June 10 & 11th, 17 & 18th.  You start with a pre-cut quilt at Quilted Memories.  There, you will receive a project kit.  The Small size 54X64 is $65.00,  and the Large size 64X76 is $85.00.  You will have a wonderful lunch, and enjoy the day sewing with others.  Then the next day (It can be anyone of the days above) you go to the Attic Window Quilt Shop to get the rest of your project kit, enjoy lunch, and have a great time sewing all day long!  Call the Shop for further details.     You can see a picture of the quilt here.

HAVE YOU HEARD OF A SHOP SWAP?

Have you joined the Shop Swap of 2010? The Attic Window Quilt Shop and Quilted Memories in Montague are teaming up for a Shop Swap. If you join the Shop Swap you will be making the above quilt. All kits are pre cut for your convenience. The fabric is from the Noel line by Benartex. Here is how it works. You bring your sewing machine to the Attic Window Quilt Shop and start your project. You will then go to Quilted Memories for the rest of your kit and to finish your project. You will have Wednesday, July 14th through Saturday, July 17th to make your quilt. You may sign up at either shop, but reservations must be made ahead of time in order to get your pre-cut kit. The cost is $55, which includes lunch and your pre-cut kit! What a deal! You won’t want to miss this fun event. Make your reservations now!

This is a picture of a quilt that Chris made for her niece. It is also the quilt that you will make in the Beginning Quilt Class at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. What a fun project for a beginner. Look for this beginning quilt class on the next calendar.
