A FINISH FOR FRIDAY

You might remember Adrienne's class at the Attic Window Quilt Shop that I posted about here. You might also remember that she gave me a bag of low volume scraps to make my own quilt.  I started on that last week and I think I am finished. I think.  As I sewed my scraps I got to wondering about what else I could make with these scraps and got a little sidetracked.  I made a bag using Adrienne's method of sewing pieces of fabric together.  The bag is all made from scraps, even the lining.  I did spend 90 cents on a new zipper.  

The bag turned out a little drab for me so I appliqued on this flower to perk it up.

This is the inside.  I dug through my scrap bag and found enough leftover scraps for the inside.  The bag is 8" x 11" and I used the pattern:  Noodlehead's Wide Open Zipper Pouch.

Also, I forgot to tell you about my mistake with Free Motion Quilting.  After I had completed two rows I happened to turn the piece over and discovered the tension was wacky.  Fixed it and moved on.  It had been a while since I had done any FMQ and completely forgot about the tension.  Also, I don't think I told you I use water dissolving thread when practicing.  This is awesome.  I just use it in the bobbin.  After I had filled up my piece, I placed it in a pan of water and within five minutes I was able to pull all the top threads out and hang the pieces up to dry.  Today I just need to press the pieces, make them into a sandwich again, and practice some more.  What a fun way to spend this holiday weekend.  Hope you all have a great time too!

MAKING SWEATPEA PODS AND CLASS CHANGE

During Craft Day at the Attic Window Quilt Shop, Diana (above) told us not to throw away the half square triangles left over from when we made our Bendy Bag.  She told us we could use those triangles to make the little Sweatpea Pods.  Since Rosa and I didn't have time to make those during Craft day, Diana graciously said she would show us how during Happy Scrappers.  We were grateful and traveled through our first snow to make it to the shop on Saturday.

 Diana worked right along with us and above she shows us the four pods that she made.

Above are the Pods that I made.  They are small but will be great for traveling.  I like how you can fit a spool of thread and bobbin into the Pod.  The other one will be filled with Candy nutritious things for my trip.   What is even more important, they were basically free since they were made of left over fabric which would have probably been tossed.  We did have to buy one zipper and an extra pull, but that was practically nothing.  What a fun project.  I bet little kids would find a use for them too.  You can get the pattern at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.

NOW YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO

Are you like most quilters who have participated in the Row by Row Experience over the years and have collected fabric plates (those pieces of fabric that are designed to resemble state license plates)?  They are 7.25 inches by 3.5 inches and are printed on cotton.  Marilyn shows us a clever way to use that piece of fabric.  Above you can see how she used a past Attic Window Quilt Shop fabric plate to make this little zipper pouch.

YOU CAN MAKE THIS BAG

 When I was at the Attic Window Quilt Shop earlier this week I noticed this adorable bag.  Kathy B. made it as a sample for the shop.  The Sassy Tote Bag pattern is available at the shop.  I think I have to make this one.

 It is raining and dreary here in west Michigan today, so I went to my sewing room in the basement and made some blocks.  The above block is from the book Modern Bee and is for Jill who is the Hive's queen bee this month.  I hope she likes the fabrics.

I spent the better part of the afternoon going through my scrap pile looking for just the right corner stones for the Charity Quilt blocks that I showed you on my previous post.  I finally came up with these.  This was not an easy decision.  I would find a fabric that would be perfect only to discover there was not enough fabric for the nine blocks in the quilt.  Of course, I had plenty of fabric available on those that were too dark, or not enough contrast, etc.  I do like this pattern, but think next month I'll try a different design, maybe something more conducive to helping me shrink my pile of scraps.  I'm going to follow along with Alamosa Quilter.  She has a BOM quilt along that is sure to reduce my scrap pile and also make a beautiful Charity quilt.  Be sure and check Alamosa Quilter on Feb. 17 as that is when directions will be posted for the Goose On The Loose BOM.

MAKE A QUILT OR MAKE A BAG

 How is everyone doing today?  Have things settled down after all the Holiday rush?  Then maybe it is time to take a class at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Above is the block you can make with Vickie S. on Friday, Jan. 22.  It is called Four Patch Fun.

I took the class from her a couple of years ago and loved the blocks so much that I used them to make this bag which I sent to my Aunt.  There are so many wonderful things you can do with these blocks.  Give the shop a call and register for the class and get your supply list.

NEW MAKE IT TAKE IT CLASS AT ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

WANT TO MAKE A SCRAPPY BAG?

Hello Fellow Quilters!  I hope everyone had a nice Halloween.  I had lots of candy on hand because we usually have over a hundred Trick or Treaters.  However, it rained all day and night Saturday and I think I got about six little costumed creatures at my door.  I felt so sorry for them.

Now to Quilting.  Above is the darling scrappy bag that Misti made. The pattern is Scrap Happy Purse from Crazy Mom Quilts by Amanda Jean Nyberg.

 Above are two of the bags prior to Misti adding the handles.  What a great way to use those scraps! And what nice gifts they will make too!

I have to show you this picture.  Misti works for a place that sells pool chemicals. The workers in her department often refer to themselves as Pool Doctors.  Above the group is dressed in their scrubs for Halloween.  Misti is the one holding the basket and has the pool noodles in her hair.  What a cute idea.  I bet they had a fun day at work.  Thanks Misti for sending these pictures.

A NEW CLASS YOU WILL WANT TO TAKE

Now that all the kids are back in school we can start planning some things we want to do.  Whether it is for Christmas, birthdays, or yourself, you are going to want to make this table topper.  You can have a fun time making this beauty when you take the class with Vickie S. at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  The class is October 16th.  Call the shop to register.

I forgot to show you my finished bag.  Most of the fabrics are from Ethiopia and were given to me by my friend Tsigereda who used to live there.  When she went home for a visit I asked her to bring me back a fat quarter.  Of course, she wondered what a fat quarter was, and I explained that it was a piece of fabric.  She returned to the U.S. with a pile of fabrics that I have cherished over the years.  I recently posted here about making her a quilt from those fabrics.  The above bag was made from the leftover fabrics.  The pattern is Street Strip Bag by Quilted Memories.   I love it.

Isn't this coin purse darling!!!!  Misti sent the picture to me.  She said she "made this for Stacie my son's girlfriend.  She goes to Baker College but loves Michigan State football.  She has a lot of State garb too.  She is going into the medical field."

Thank you Misti for sending this picture.  I now know what I will be making for my granddaughter who graduated from Michigan State and is in the Medical field.  I have some fabrics left over from when I made my grandson a quilt last year and I have an extra frame, so it looks like it was meant to be.  Can't wait to  get started on it.

IMPORTANT CRAFT DAY ANNOUNCEMENT

 Before I tell you about this bag, I have an important announcement.  There are two Craft Days scheduled this year at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  This has always been a popular event and in order to accommodate everyone, Chris added an additional Craft Day to the calendar.  Originally the two events were scheduled for Friday, November 21, and Saturday, November 29.  However, things have snowballed.  There are far too many things going on right now and the Craft Day scheduled for Friday, November 21, has been moved to Friday, December 5.  If you prefer, there is still room in the Saturday, November 29 session.  Just call the shop and let Chris know what you would like to do.  I’m looking forward to this fun event.  You can see what we made last year here

About that bag.  I made my first snap bag.  I can’t find the tutorial that I used but there are a multitude of them on the internet.  Tutorials by Sew We Quilt; Just Another Hang Up; Sweet P Quilting; and Tattered Garden, are just a few.  This is such a fun bag to make I’m definitely going to make more.

THESE BABES TRAVEL IN STYLE

Yesterday I showed you a picture of the bag that Stephanie had started working on Saturday when the Happy Scrappers met at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Above is the finished bag.  It is adorable.

This is the other side of the bag and shows the embroidery stitched initials that Stephanie added.

This is the inside of the bag…without the added box pockets.

What does she mean by boxed pockets, you are wondering?  Well, I don’t know if that is what you call them, but above you can see what I’m talking about.

This picture shows that they can be securely attached to each other via Velcro.

And here they are placed inside the bag, ready to hold Sweet Pea’s dolls.

Above Sweet Pea is ready to go on a trip with her dolls secure in this darling bag!

Of course, I couldn’t forget to show you this adorable picture of Sweet Pea with her new kitten!

FRIDAY FUN STUFF

I have a few things to show you today that I didn’t get a chance to show earlier this week.  I fell in love with this beautiful bag that Donna made.  She said she made it from a jelly roll and it was not easy.  She sewed strips together, turned them inside out, stuffed them with a stiffener, then wove the strips together to make the bag.  It is awesome!

Kathy made this wool table topper as a sample for the shop.  You have plenty of time to make it before the July 4th holiday!  Stop in and pick up the pattern, and pull wools from the wonderful selection at the shop.

Cathy M. sent me this picture of her latest project.  I’m sorry I forgot the name of the bag, but I think Marilyn teaches a class on it at the shop.  At any rate, I’m sure you can get the pattern there.
