A BEAUTIFUL WOOL WALL HANGING

When at the Attic Window Quilt Shop last week, Jeannette Mansfield stopped in to get some wool fabric.  She also had this stunning quilt with her so she could match the browns in it. It is so beautiful I wanted to share it with you. so I asked if I could take a picture.
A closer look for you.
Another close-up.  Thank you Jeannette for letting me share your lovely quilt.  It sure makes me want to try my hand at wool.

HAVE YOU TRIED WOOL EMBROIDERY?

I fell in love with this wool needle case when I was at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Marilyn is one of the teachers of the Embroidery Bee and made this case.  I didn't realize they made things at the Bee.  I guess I thought it was all about learning various stitches.
This is a look inside the case.  Marilyn has applied various embroidery stitches.  So pretty.
Marilyn said that a number of the Bee members are making items from the book "A Cottage Garden."  There are two Embroidery Bees.  One meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 10:30 in the morning.  The evening Embroidery Bee meets every other Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.  Call the shop to see which Tuesday evening they are meeting.

SEEN AT THE ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

When at the Attic Window Quilt Shop last week, Mary P. showed us her latest quilt.  It is lovely.  She said she made it all from half square triangles, then decided to add the various borders herself.  I love this quilt!
I also saw this darling wool piece at the shop.  Kathy B. made it and the pattern is in a book at the shop.

ARE YOU GETTING THINGS FINISHED?

I have a few things to show you today.  While recently at the Attic Window Quilt Shop, Carol P. showed us her finished quilt from the blocks she made during the Quilt Block Cookbook BOM last year.  I love how she finished it.  Great job Carol!
I can't believe it, but I forgot to show you Cathy's quilt that she shared with the Happy Scrapper's group.  Cathy is trying to finish some of her projects.  She said this is from a BOM at the Attic Window Quilt Shop during 2013.  Good for you Cathy!
I saw this sample at the shop and fell in love with it.  Kathy B. made it in wool.
This is a close up of the project.  You can get the pattern at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.

SEE WHAT KATHY DOES WITH WOOL

Today I want to share with you "all things Kathy."  Kathy works in wool and makes the most stunning samples for the shop.  Everyone drools over this wall hanging above.  Kathy said she was going to frame it in barn wood but couldn't get the right size and since she wanted Chris to have it on display for the Heart of Winter Tour, she wrapped the background around a stretcher frame.  I love this look.  You can make one yourself.  The pattern is in the Attic Window Quilt Shop.
I'm so sorry I didn't get names of any of these patterns, but I'm sure you can describe them when you call the shop.  This wool Welcome is on a homespun background.
Another wall hanging by Kathy.  I love this pattern and would like to make it larger in size and make the blocks in cotton.  Whatever medium you use, it is sure to be a winner.
I showed you this little table topper before.  Kathy made it too and I decided to show it to you again since it is so darn cute.
And Kathy made these for the Heart of Winter Tour.  I promised to give you the recipe.  You will be amazed at how the addition of a few products below makes a big difference in how these cookies taste.  They are wonderful.

    Fabulous Chocolate Chip Cookies
    1 cup sugar
    1 cup brown sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
    1 cup oil
    1 Tablespoon milk
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 egg
    1 tsp. cream of tartar
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. baking soda
    4 cups flour
1 12 oz. package chocolate chips
1/2 cup raisins or nuts (optional)

Cream butter with sugars.  Add oil, milk and vanilla.  Stir in egg, then all dry ingredients.  Add chips and raisins, if desired. Drop by tablespoon onto ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned.  Makes 6 dozen cookies.

    DON’T FORGET:

    • Happy Scrappers meets this Wednesday, February 8th and again on Saturday, February 14th.
    • Due to the Heart of Winter Tour, FIRST SATURDAY SAMPLER moved in February ONLY from Saturday, February 7th. To Saturday, February 14th.  This will not interfere with Happy Scrappers as they will meet immediately after Sampler.

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Not much to show you today.  When cleaning the house and getting ready for out of town guests, I came across this unfinished wool project.  I think it needs leaves and other embellishments. Does that ever happen to you?  Do you have unfinished projects?  (I’m laughing to myself.)  Anyway, I wanted to post a picture you haven’t seen before and one that was kind of in the Thanksgiving theme.  Mainly, I wanted to wish everyone here in the U.S. and around the world who celebrate this holiday,  a Happy Thanksgiving on Thursday.  I’ll probably not be posting the rest of this week as I will be busy with great grand kids.  You can’t blame me for that!

    NEW CLASS
    :
    • Vickie S. will have a One Block Wonder class on Monday, December 15th from 10:00-4:00.
    DON’T FORGET:
    • Craft Days scheduled this year at the Attic Window Quilt Shop are Saturday, November 29, and Friday, December 5.  This has always been a popular event and in order to accommodate everyone, Chris added a Craft Day to the calendar.  Just call the shop and let Chris know which day you would like to attend.
    ON ANOTHER NOTE:
    • Wedding Dress Blue has a tutorial for a Film At Five quilt.  This is a great way to use scraps and it will be my goal to make this next year.
    Until next time,

    FRIDAY FUN STUFF

I have a few things to show you today that I didn’t get a chance to show earlier this week.  I fell in love with this beautiful bag that Donna made.  She said she made it from a jelly roll and it was not easy.  She sewed strips together, turned them inside out, stuffed them with a stiffener, then wove the strips together to make the bag.  It is awesome!
Kathy made this wool table topper as a sample for the shop.  You have plenty of time to make it before the July 4th holiday!  Stop in and pick up the pattern, and pull wools from the wonderful selection at the shop.
This is the back of the wool table topper!
Cathy M. sent me this picture of her latest project.  I’m sorry I forgot the name of the bag, but I think Marilyn teaches a class on it at the shop.  At any rate, I’m sure you can get the pattern there.
This is the inside the bag.  It looks like it has lots of room inside.  Thanks Cathy for sharing.

    ON ANOTHER NOTE:
    • Did you go check out the Row By Row Shop Hop website.  This is a must for anyone traveling this summer.  You won’t want to miss this.
    • Moda Bake Shop has a tutorial for a hexagon quilt called Let Your Imagination Bloom.

YOU CAN MAKE THESE BEAUTIFUL WOOL WALL HANGINGS

I love these little wool wallhangings.  Cathy made these samples for the shop.
Above is one of the patterns that Cathy used to make the wall hanging.
Cathy does beautiful work in wool.  She also made this cute Halloween wall hanging.  (How's that for an April Fool Day!)
Looking for wool?  Cathy arranged this basket full of beautiful wools for your easy picking.  Each little roll is 6" X 15".  Love those wonderful colors.

ON ANOTHER NOTE:  Sew Many Ways has a tutorial for a Kitchen Wood Box.  Looks like a great way to use your scraps.

LOOK AT THESE BEAUTIES IN WOOL, COTTON, FLANNEL

Today I’m devoting this post to Kathy Bauman.  Kathy was at the Tuesday Bee at the Attic Window Quilt Shop and when I saw what she was working on, I knew you’d want to see it.  Kathy had just finished sewing the binding on above quilt.  The pattern is Home for the Holidays and the quilt is made of cottons and wools.  She said it was a kit she purchased from Primitive Gatherings.

These four close-up pictures are some of the individual blocks in the quilt.

After finishing the binding on the other quilt, Kathy started working on this wool and flannel quilt.  It is called Evelyn’s Album and is also from Primitive Gatherings.  These are stunning quilts!  Thanks Kathy for sharing with us.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR NOW:  The Annual New Year’s Day Sale at the Attic Window Quilt Shop will be held on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 from 12 noon to 4 p.m.  Chris says she can’t wait to clean out some of her secret hiding places.  We'll have lots of goodies and bargains to go through!

ON ANOTHER NOTE:  Today I’m directing you to Lori’s Country Cottage where there are lots of free patterns.  I particularly like the chalk board mat with pockets.  It would make a great gift.

    Until next time,

HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT A PICTURE?

I stopped in at the Attic Window Quilt Shop earlier this week and got some pictures I want to share with you.  Above is the awesome quilt that Judy A. brought to Bee for show and tell.  She said her husband designed the picture and she worked it up in wools.
This is a close up so you can see the red bird in the tree branches as well as the small pine cones.  Can you see them?
Judy thread painted this little bunny next to the grass.  Judy said that she found the oval frame she wanted, but it was white, so her husband painted it to make it look older.  She said she then had a dickens of a time finding the right color matting.  When she did she had the picture matted and framed and glass installed and then hung the picture in her home.  She indicated that she intends to have one of these lovely ladies for every season.  This is truly a work of art Judy!
Also while at the shop Jeanne B. showed us her most recent finish.  She said she started this when Sally had a BOM at the shop back in 1998 or 99.  I love how the blocks look all together.  It makes a lovely quilt.  My blocks are still in the pizza box.  Great job Jeanne!
Judy also showed us this string quilt that she is getting ready to quilt.  She said she blamed Jeri C. for this quilt as Jeri is the one who got her going on this addictive technique.
Jeri C. was working on a stitchery.  Don’t you love this one?  Check out the look on the snowman’s face.  I probably look like that when I’d rather be quilting too, which is most of the time, especially when housework calls.

ON ANOTHER NOTE:  Love Laugh Quilt has a wonderful tutorial for an adorable doll.  I may have shown this before.  If so I’m sorry, but I just love dolls and this one looks like a fun one to make.  I know I’ll have to make several.
ALSO: Shabby Fabrics has a new BOM.  Check it out.

    Until next time,
