ARE YOUR READY FOR FEBRUARY?

It's almost February.  Are you ready for Valentine's Day?  I had a pattern from Barb at Bejeweled Quilts and decided to make a table topper.  Also, I wanted to do some applique and this was the perfect project for that.  The pattern called for the hearts to be fusible but I had to use my Freezer Paper Method. Sorry about the dark photo.  It's been a dreary day here.
Here is how they looked after they were stitched down.  Now if I can only decide how to quilt it.
This is a closeup of the hearts.  I think this picture was taken before I stitched them down.
I saw on the Clever Chameleon Blog a tutorial for using those bits and pieces of left over fabrics to make a heart.  I certainly had lots of left over fabrics after making those hearts for that table topper, so I made the heart above.
Now I have that heart, and one left over heart from Barb's table topper (I made one too many) and lots of little hearts from the centers of those hearts in that table topper.  So now I'm trying to figure out a design for a table topper so I can use all these scraps up.  Any ideas?

DON'T FORGET to sign up for the Heart of Winter Tour bus trip on Saturday, Feb. 10th.  You can read about it here.  I'm really looking forward to visiting the four shops on the tour.

HEARTS ARE PUMPING!

It's that time of year again, time to start thinking about Valentine's Day.  Above is a place mat you can make for your loved one or just to decorate a table.  Cathy and I are teaching a dual class at the Attic Window Quilt Shop on Friday, Jan. 27th from 10-3.  You can make this simple place mat that day or you can......
make this adorable wall hanging.  Cathy made a heart which fits on one of those little metal table frames that you can find in the shop.  Then she embellished it.
This is a closeup of the heart.  As a new grandma for the first time she couldn't resist putting six-week-old Tupper's picture in the heart.  She'll show you how to do that....or
She'll show you how to make several different hearts into a small blanket.  She didn't want me to take this picture because she hasn't added the binding and it needs to be pressed, but I talked her into it so I could show you all the opportunities you will have when you take our class on Friday, Jan. 27.  Call the shop to register and get your supply list.

YOU CAN MAKE THIS BURSTING HEART

Another snow/sew day.  Since I couldn’t get to the shop to take any pictures I thought I’d show you what I’ve been doing.  Above is the Bursting Heart that Blue Susan Makes showed you how to make here.  I didn’t follow her instructions exactly.
I did a lot of auditioning and rearranging.  I don’t do the fusing method enough to really understand it, (read that I'm afraid of it) so I just made my freezer paper templates.
I did read in the instructions that the heart grows larger as it “bursts.”  That happened to me and it outgrew my pillow form.  That's why it is not as "bursting" as I wanted it to be.  I kept scrunching it down to fit the form.  Then I just gave up.  Now I think I’ll turn it into a table topper.  Chris has some darling Valentine’s fabrics in the shop so I’m anxious to get up there and finish this project.  Why don't you drop by too and pick up some new fabric and make this project now?  You can have it completed and waiting for you to display next February.

QUILTING FRIENDS ARE THE BEST!

Today I attended the Happy Scrappers Bee at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  I’ll tell you all about that tomorrow.  Now, I want to tell you about the wonderful surprise I found when I got home.
Dear friend Jeanne B. made this lovely mug rug and sent it to me in the mail.  Isn’t it fun getting a package in the mail!  I love mug rugs.  A few years ago I realized I was ruining my coffee table where I always placed my coffee mug.  Now I can get rid of that old one I made back then and use this lovely red heart.
And notice – she sent me this darling handmade Valentine card too! You can click on the picture to get a closer view.  She is so artistic!  And the message inside warms my heart. Thank you Jeanne!  You are my Valentine!

ARE YOU READY FOR VALENTINE'S DAY?

I haven’t been just sitting around whistling Dixie.  I’ve been busy making this wall hanging.  I thought it was perfect for February.  The pattern is from Kim Schaefer’s Calendar Quilts.  It was fun to make, especially because I used fabric from my scrap pile.  As I was searching through my scraps, it made me grateful that I hadn’t yet gotten around to organization (yes, it is on my list).  I had dreams of cutting all my scraps into specific sizes and placing them in orderly little stacks in project boxes like I had seen on other blogs.  I visualized taking pictures and showing you how I was organized too.  Well, that ain’t happening!  Because I’m lazy, I was able to find all kinds of red fabrics in the various sizes that the pattern called for.  Let’s face it, it is doubtless I’ll ever get organized, and if I do it will probably just be to gather like-color fabrics into a specific tub, which I admit would be a big help.

I just looked and hope I get around to making the March wall hanging.  It is darling with flowers and birds.  You can get the pattern at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.

HAPPPY VALENTINE'S DAY

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. Can you believe how fast the days are rolling by? I talked about this quilt before here  and here .  Now I’m showing you the full, finished quilt that I made for my great grandson. I’ve had such fun making this. As I said before, the idea for the creature came from something I saw on Gapingvoid.  I love his quirky drawings.

My great grandson definitely is my everything! I thought the scrappy look helped the “creature” stand out. Also, I figured that if I used scraps, there would not be any concern about how this quilt would be used or abused. It is meant to be enjoyed, and who cares if something is spilled on a scrap? Hope you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day.

A Valentine's gift for you:  WAIT!  Before you go to Thrifty Ideas Today you should get a cup of coffee/tea and plan on spending some time at this site.  There are lots of good things to see!

PS:  Thanks to everyone for the well wishes on the loss of my beloved Sassy.  She meant the world to me and I will miss her terribly.  In fact, I'm surprised at how weepy I've been these past few days.  Your well wishes have helped me get through this.  Quilters are the best!
